Currently, the two-wheeled electric segment continues to look for new formulas with which to attract customers who are not convinced about getting started in this type of plug-in mobility. They do it, for example, using minimalist retro designs like the one on the Streetdog XR by FTN Motion. In it, this New Zealand brand perfectly combines past, present and future, without falling into unnecessary grandiloquence.
The idea here is to offer a product that, in addition to being efficient, can catch the eye. Not only that; It is also important to keep a fundamental aspect within this equation under control: the final price. That is why technical simplicity is one of the main assets with which this model plays, which is also offered in two different configurations: Street and Scrambler.
FTN Motion Streetdog XR in detail
The brand explains from its official website that Streetdog XR is “represents a bold step in our mission to free you from congestion and emissions, turning your daily commute into the best part of your day.” With a maximum speed of 85 km/h and up to 140 kilometers of autonomy (adding a secondary battery), it is undeniable that it can efficiently meet the daily mobility demands of almost any user.
On a technical level, it has an electric motor installed in the rear hub that offers a maximum power of 10 hp (7.5 kW). This is combined with a removable lithium-ion battery of 72 V and 2.9 kWh. Together we can obtain a real autonomy of between 60 and 80 kmalthough optionally we can use the aforementioned second battery in order to increase this range.
This would be located under the false fuel tank, in a hole that, failing that, offers us up to 30 liters of capacity. To be able to carry out a complete recharge we will need a little more than five hours, figures quite far from those of some competing models. The rest of the assembly stands out for a cycle part controlled by a tubular steel frame and swingarm.
In both versions we find a pair of 18″ radial-type aluminum wheels, shod with road or mixed tires depending on our choice. All of its elements are common to any of them, among which we have a brake disc on each axle, a 31 mm telescopic fork at the front and double shock absorbers at the rear.
In this Streetdog XR variant, the brand has also introduced a series of improvements, including: higher handlebars, raised suspension and greater ground clearance. Likewise, among the main elements of comfort and technology we can highlight:
- 2.1 inch LCD touch screen
- Driving modes: Eco / Driving
- Alarm
- USB charger
- Adjustable footrests, etc.
With a curb weight of just 88 kilos and a driver’s seat positioned just 775mmthe Streetdog “Along with the smooth ride, durability and light, balanced geometry that already characterize the Streetdog, it adapts perfectly to the rhythm of the city or the coast”.
