The salt flats of Bonneville They have once again been the scene of a true exhibition of speed. Between August 23 and 27, the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials 2026an event integrated into the championship FIM Land Speed World Records which this year left records in 8 categories.
And, as we are telling you, among the prominent names it appears again Liane Langlois. The Canadian returned to Utah with the same mechanical base that already allowed her to achieve a world record in 2025 and, this year, she managed to take it even further…
A very special Triumph Rocket III
The protagonist of this story is a Triumph Rocket III Roadster of 2012 prepared by JKR Powersports. Under the fairing is one of the most unique engines it has ever manufactured. Triumph: a 2,295 cc three-cylinder, a mechanism that was originally intended to power a huge cruiser and that now has to face one of the most extreme scenarios for a motorcycle.
The Rocket III is accompanied by a «ballasted sidecar» and has been prepared specifically for land speed tests. The big news compared to last year is in the aerodynamics. For this edition at Bonneville, it received a front fairing and a sidecar wheel cover. And the improvement has been evident.
In 2025, Langlois I had already achieved a world record with this same Triumphreaching 219.4 km/h over the km timed in Bonneville. Now, a year later, the figure has risen to 235.526 km/h.
There is almost a 16 km/h difference, a particularly striking improvement considering that we are talking about a production motorcycle from more than a decade ago transformed to compete in a discipline in which aerodynamics and stability are essential.
Another world record for a pilot who has already made history
The result also has a special dimension for Langlois. The Canadian was the first woman from Canada to become a world record holder FIM of land speed and now adds another mark to his record. And there is an interesting detail in the competition of Bonneville:
“FIM records are not established through male and female categories, but according to characteristics such as the configuration of the motorcycle, the displacement, the number of cylinders, the propulsion system or the bodywork.”
After breaking her new world record in Bonneville, our protagonist, Liane Langlois declared: “On Tuesday, I ran 236.4 km/h on my downhill run. We headed out for the return run and as I changed gears, something didn’t feel right, but I managed to complete the timed mile at 145 mph. The first time I tried it in 2024, my first pass was only 152.9 km/h! We’ve come a long way in these three years, so I’m very excited about what we’ve accomplished, plus I get to bring another world record to Canada!”
