A necessary change to save the company?

2024 has been a year marked by negative figures for KTM and Piere Mobility Ag. The income has fallen by 29%, reaching 1.9 billion euros compared to the 2,700 million of the previous year. Sales to dealers have also collapsed 21%, with 292,497 distributed units. Production also deliberately reduced 26% to manage inventory excesses, lowering 230,000 motorcycles manufactured.

The most serious impact of this crisis has been felt on the workforce, with more than 1,800 employees dismissed throughout the group. In addition, the Ebitda projected for 2024 is located in red numbers, with an operational loss of 300 million euros, to which are added extraordinary expenses and a net debt that remains on the rise.

Piere gives command

In this context, Stefan Pierer announced that he will yield his position as CEO to Gottfried Neumeister, who had already been appointed co-cement in September 2024. Pierer will continue linked to the company in a support role, but his resignation marks a significant change in The leadership structure. This movement seeks to calm creditors and reinforce confidence in the restructuring plan.

Neumeister assumes command at a critical moment, with the responsibility of directing a process that includes the possible entry of new investors. Among those interested are Indian manufacturer Bajaj, the Chinese brand CFMoto and a financial fund by Hong Kong. In addition, Stephan Zöchling, CEO of Remus, could play a key role, after its recent investment of 65 million euros that avoided KTM’s immediate bankruptcy.

Sales contrasts

Pierer Mobility continues with its internal restructuring and says goodbye to more employees

Despite financial difficulties, sales to final customers have remained stable, with 268,000 motorcycles delivered. This reflects the confidence of consumers in group brands, which includes KTM, Husqvarna, Gasgas and MV Agusta. However, this positive performance was achieved at the expense of offering great discounts, a strategy that, although effective in reducing inventories, has reduced benefits.

An uncertain future or an opportunity?

In the last year more than 300 people have lost their jobs

The future of KTM and Pierer Mobility AG now depends on the success of its restructuring and the ability of Neumeister to stabilize the company’s finances. The entry of new investors and the continuation of their successes in motor sport could be key to recovering confidence in the market.

The next extraordinary assembly of January 27 promises to be decisive. With a possible change of participations and new strategies on the table, KTM is at a turning point that could define its future in the motorcycle industry.
