23 years ago Harley-Davidson launched its V-Twin Racing Street Custom (VRSC), commonly known as the V-Rod. Two years later, on the centenary of the brand, they treated us to this V-Rod 100th Anniversary Edition. A special series of the model, of which we bring you today a beautiful example that has just gone on sale in Houston, Texas, for a price of $5,900 or best offer. A real bargain.
If you still don’t know what the arrival of the V-Rod meant to the Harley range, we recommend that you read some of the period tests where the journalists of the time classified it as the definitive custom. Mark Shippey Visor Down said of her:
“The V-Rod is probably what the Japanese Big Four should have built. Instead, they were too concerned with imitating existing Harleys. HD has now developed a fast, reliable, good-handling sport cruiser that has suddenly reached a whole new audience.”
Harley-Davidson V-Rod 100th Anniversary Edition: “The Cream of the Cream”
If you dress up the already exclusive V-Rod for a date as important as the brand’s 100th anniversary, the result can only be an excellent bike, loaded with details and aimed at the most die-hard fans of the Milwaukee brand. As we can see, it sports a special color scheme, as well as small aesthetic touches specific to this version, such as the Harley-Davidson centenary badge on the fuel tank.
Of course, it is equipped with the well-known engine V-Twin at 60º Liquid cooled 1.131 cm³ jointly developed with Porsche. With its 115 HP of power and 100 Nm of maximum torque managed to catapult himself up to almost the 220 km/h, something unprecedented up to that point in a custom-cut mount from the American brand. The engine was associated with a 5-speed Getrag gearbox.
The chassis was highlighted by its spectacular exposed tubular steel frame and the powerful 49 mm telescopic front fork. Braking was provided by Brembo, with a double 292 mm diameter front disc and four-piston calipers. The rear used the same configuration, although with a single disc.
In the case of this V-Rod 100th Anniversary Edition that has recently been for sale on the famous Ebay ad portal, its owner argues that it only has 6,860 miles, something like 11,000 km and that “It just had maintenance done, it runs, drives and sounds amazing”He was asking for $5,900 for it, about 5,450 eurosor best offer, but we regret to inform you that the listing expired a few hours ago and that nobody has had the decency (or the money) to get it.
