Or MotoGP rider, or cyclist, you choose. This is the situation that Aleix Espargaró seems to have faced in recent days, as we can extract from his latest statements in relation to his professional role as a cyclist. An activity that seems to have come to an end as reported by the Catalan pilot himself.
Aleix Espargaró, dedicated exclusively to his role as test driver
In the final stages of last year, 2024, it was confirmed that Aleix Espargaró would continue competing at a professional level, although in a very different sport in which he had developed his career until now: Cycling. I would do it as a member of the Lidl-Trekthe second team of the American squad.
At the same time, Aleix would balance his schedule to be able to continue performing his duties as a test driver within the official Honda team. And it seems that it is precisely this last issue that has forced him to put professional cycling aside forever. According to Espargaró’s statements in some international media, he admits that: “Alberto Puig told me that if I was at Honda, I had to be more focused on the motorcycles.”
He concludes his argument by explaining honestly: “I thought I could be in both worlds and that hasn’t been the case.” In any case, the Spanish rider will continue to be linked to his second great passion, as he has confirmed his intention to maintain his training, when his commitments with Honda allow it, along with some of those who until now have been his teammates in the Lidl-Trek.
