The Bultaco TSS (Tgrate Yesuper Yesport) remained within the Spanish firm’s catalog for a decade. Designed to compete in the different speed tests of the time, including GP, between 1960 and 1970 it became a benchmark within the main tracks on the planet. Even a “Barry Sheene” competed with a copy imported by his father in 1967.
He did it under his orders and with Dave Croxford as a teammate, throughout the 1968 season. As a curiosity, that Bultaco TSS 250 had a gear transmission, being one of the main modifications to which it was subjected at the time.
Bultaco TSS 250 Type 41 ex-Barry Sheene in detail
Precisely now that motorcycle, which was owned by the Sheene for at least two years, will be auctioned by H&H Classics at an event held at the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull, in the West Midlands. Along with this, another good handful of jewels will also be available, all of them valued at an amount close to one million pounds, almost 1.2 million euros.
As for this Bultaco TSS 250 Type 41, it is associated with the chassis number 600661. Throughout its almost six decades of life, it has only had four owners, including Barry Sheene and his father who released it at the time. Brian Richards, of BRD Racing, was the second owner from 1970 to 1985. Throughout all this time he kept it of strict origin, despite using it regularly in different competitions.
As explained in the detailed description of the auction itself, in reference to its third owner: “The new owner kept it in working order and made some changes and improvements, including installing a Dell ‘Orto carburetor, adopting a lower first gear ratio for easier starting, and replacing the main gearbox shaft with a splined one at the clutch end.”
Among the improvements carried out, a Selletra ignition was also installed. It is not until 2020 that the current owner acquires it, precisely through an auction held by the same house now in charge of its sale. This clarifies: “He has also kept it in its state of conservation, even the paint on the chassis is original.”
Likewise, it is worth noting that the Bultaco TSS 250 Type 41 ex-Barry Sheene was part of the starring cast in the 2014 BBC documentary “Racing Legends”, where it was piloted by the versatile Vic Reeves. Subsequently, it was exhibited during the Silverstone Experience celebration events in 2020. With a estimated price between 16 and 18 thousand eurosit is possible that it will end up happening like in other recent auctions.
We mean that the final bid is ultimately much higher than the average value estimated by the specialists of the auction house itself. A good example of this is the 1988 Yamaha XT500, which ended up selling for four times the initial price… Will something similar happen with this Bultaco TSS 250? Very soon we will clear up doubts.
