When a talent like Pedro Acosta breaks into the Motorcycle World Championship, all brands want to take over his services. We must not forget that the Murcian has only competed in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024, achieving the Moto3 title on the first try, the Moto2 title in 2023 and being the protagonist in his debut in the premier category in 2024.
So much so that, after a first year in the KTM satellite structure (Tech3), Acosta is prepared to make the jump to the official team, although it is true that the Murcian has had all the possible attention from the factory in his first year But this idyllic relationship between KTM and Pedro Acosta, which has given them two titles and hundreds of headlines, is in a complicated moment.
As is well known, KTM is going through one of the most complicated moments of its existence. A financial hole of 3 billion euros of debt between banks and suppliers and a self-administered restructuring plan that will be supervised by the court of Ried im Innkreis (Austria). Although it has been confirmed that KTM will be in the MotoGP World Championship in 2025, doubts in general and around Pedro Acosta in particular are in the air.
Although Pedro has not spoken publicly about the situation, his representative, Albert Valera, has done so, who right now recognizes that both he and Pedro himself and the Acosta family are concerned about a situation that from the outside seems highly complex. That is why it has not hurt him to confirm that he is looking for alternative plans for Pedro beyond the contract they currently have with KTM.
If Acosta and KTM separate it will be in 2026
Of course, these are focused not on the 2025 season but on 2026. And, as Albert himself confirms, at this point it is not feasible to think about breaking the contract. As he acknowledged in a Motorsport podcast, when they signed in May they did so with a project that was believed to be solid and firm, and right now they don’t have it all together.
Therefore, Valera does not deny conversations with Ducati, the escape plan if they finally decide to separate from KTM or if the brand abandons MotoGP. Of course, these conversations are more aimed at competing with the VR46, Ducati’s new satellite team, than the official team, since both Márquez and Bagnaia have contracts until the end of the 2026 season.
A complicated situation for Acosta and his entourage and even more so for KTM which, while the headlines continue to appear with phrases that even deny the evolution of motorcycles for 2025, has its test teams with Dani Pedrosa and Pol Espargaró working.
And if being in KTM’s orbit you do not know the real situation and the future with certainty, from further away it is even more complicated to understand.
