ADESP is the Spanish Sports Association, and with this name it may seem that it represents athletes. However, this is not the case, since it is the association that represents the sports federations and not their members. The League is its main partner and the Higher Sports Council its institutional partner. We are, therefore, facing what we could consider as the sports employers’ association, which looks, as we said, not for the athlete but for what sport generates.
It was ADESP itself in an official statement that we transcribed in full at the end of the news, which stated that consensus had been achieved with the political groups in a key section of the Sports Law. This is a point related to compensation for federated athletes who suffer accidents.
This new scale of compensation was included in section 3 of article 23 of the Sports Law, which equated compensation in the event of a sports accident with that provided for in traffic accidents. It must be remembered that until then compensation was a maximum of 18,000 euros for disability or death.
This has led us to see, recently, tremendous situations in the world of two wheels, as was the case of Néstor Jorge, Kenny Noyes, Lucas de Ulacia or more recently Carlos Tatay. After an accident, all of them received compensation established in the 90s, and which had not been updated in terms of economics in thirty years.
Now, ADESP argues that these updates would put the federative system at risk and for that reason they are putting pressure on the different political parties to reach this announced agreement. However, sources close to different political parties deny the accuracy of the news. At the moment there is no rectification or confirmation in this regard, so we will have to wait.
In any case, if this repeal were to go ahead, the biggest losers would once again be the athletes of any sports federation. Even so, as we say, for now it has not been approved and must follow the parliamentary course and also explain what the new scales would be. We will be attentive.

ADESP achieves consensus with political groups to delete a key section of the Sports Law related to sports insurance
Article 23.3 of the new Law required that compensation, in the event of a sports accident, be at least the same as that provided for traffic accidents, which put the current federated system in Spain at risk.
Now, thanks to the consensus reached by the Spanish Sports Association (ADESP) with the main parties, this obligation will be repealed and an update will be carried out on the amounts to be paid to the federated people who, on the occasion of the practice sports, suffer accidents that involve major injuries.
