We are still waiting for Royal Enfield to throw its new and expected Himalayan Electric to the market. A model we have talked about and innumerable occasions since the first data related to its development at the end of 2023 were filtered.
Then Mario Alvisi, Development Director of Royal Enfield, declared: “Himalayan Electric is much more than a design concept. There is a broader electric mobility plan and is giving life in Royal Enfield.”
The Royal Enfield Himalayan Electric as we had never seen it before
The latest images related to the model are truly novel, essentially because, for the first time, we have seen the Himalayan Electric performing an “energy recharge.” It is not very clear if this graphic document has something to do with the last open road test in the Indian region of Ladakh. An event where Carlos Checa attended as part of the guest testers.
In any case there is something truly striking in this whole matter, and it is the type of loaders used to be able to recharge the battery pack that incorporates the Himalayan Electric. Basically, because, although in some of the photos they are plugged in fixed load stations, in others they are to mobile loaders installed in a Force Traveller van.
These in turn are fossil fuel, something, clearly, contradictory with the reason of being an electrical model. The reason for this fact, explain it in detail from Rush Lane: “Royal Enfield seems to operate a large number of test units, so existing chargers were not enough to load them all at once, which forced to use mobile loaders.”
In addition, they specify in this regard that “The electric charge infrastructure of India is still in an incipient stage and must still evolve. If a group of 10 friends made a trip like this, all in 2 -wheeled electric vehicles or electric cars, there would simply have not enough load stations for all at once.”
That said, we must bear in mind that the Himalayan Electric is positioned as a global product, so these types of problems should not exist when recharging it in other parts of the world.
Regardless of this peculiar anecdote, the model is unchanged with respect to the latest images we obtained in the middle of the test phase. This includes a 14 kWh capacity battery pack that, together with the electric motor, could end up generating a maximum power of the order of 100 hp, being able to dose it by four driving modes: Zen (city), off-road, tour and rally.
Although from Royal Enfield they have not mentioned about the exact moment in which their novel Himalayan Electric will launch, it is expected that over the next few weeks, coinciding with the proximity of the celebration of Eicma 2025, we know some relevant information on this subject, in addition to all the main aspects that will shape its new plug -in.
