In Bentley Continental GT it is one of the “grand tourers” par excellence. It has earned this distinguished status thanks to more than two decades in the market maintaining its philosophy and good work. Over the years we have been able to see some distinguished versions and other bodies such as the GTC convertible. However, the Crewe firm never dared to make a familiar shooting brake. That is precisely what the Bentley Continental Flying Staran exclusive specimen that has the best of both worlds.
With this creation, the coupe essence that the Continental had always carried as its flag was maintained, but at the same time it presented the practicality of a family car. The person in charge of making it happen was none other than Touring Superleggerathe Italian bodywork company that had always been up for a good challenge. Although they could have used the base of a Flying Spur with its additional doors, they wanted to keep two-door body and all the magic that comes with it.
Work began in 2008 at the request of a Belgian owner who wanted to have something very special. It was a rather peculiar and complex assignment to carry out, so much so that the transformation budget was 343,000 euroswithout counting on the donor car. In any case, the result was satisfactory thanks to the modifications to the rear part, which had been completely redesigned with elongated doors and bumpers, as well as a straight roof line and a differentiated tailgate.
Inside the configuration could be everything as exquisite as the client would likeso the original owner opted for Saffron leather upholstery, walnut wood trim, a two-tone steering wheel, and deep pile carpet. And we say that it was the original, because later Touring Superleggera decided to market its creation and produce 19 units of the Bentley Continental Flying Star. All of them had in common the 6.0-liter biturbo W12 engine with its 560 HP of power.
Now that a few years have passed we can see that there are still units that are perfectly preserved. One of the Bentley Continental Flying Star has gone on sale, which belongs to The Curated Collection and It has barely traveled 7,467 kilometers in all its existence. It has received a comprehensive restoration by Clark & Carter Restorations and will be auctioned shortly. From RM Sotheby’s They estimate that it will sell for between 300,000 and 400,000 euroswhich would be something like half of what it originally cost without counting additional expenses.
