New car registrations increased by 7.2% in October 2024, the month in which the 83,472 units sold. If we look at the data accumulated so far this year, a total of 828,462 new registered units have accumulated, an improvement of 4.9% compared to the same period of the previous year.
The figures are still 22% below those seen in October 2019, before the pandemic. And the other point that we usually analyze every month, that of sales of plug-in vehicles, has reached 9,908 units, a 11.86% of sales of the month. In the cumulative total of the year, 90,137 units have been reached, just 0.4% more than the previous year, which represents a 10.88% annual quota.
Of course, the rise in conventional hybrid cars during the month stands out. Thanks to this, for the year as a whole, an average of 117.1 grams of CO2 per km travelled, 0.8% lower, was recorded. As for sales by channels, they all improve in October. The retail market achieved growth of 8.7%, with 41,436 units. Likewise, sales to companies registered 36,164 new passenger cars, which represents an increase of 6.5%. As for the rental channel, it increased by 0.5%, with 5,872 sales.
From ANFAC, the manufacturers’ association, they point out that if the market continues with this trend, “we could end 2024 with close to one million units. A barrier that Spain must overcome as soon as possible. “Not only for economic reasons for the country but also to continue advancing in the decarbonization and renewal of the Spanish automobile fleet.” They remember that aid for the purchase of an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle until the end of the year can reach 10,000 euros.
From Faconauto they are not so optimistic and assure that the stability of the market is not good news: “we are at a critical moment in which, with luck, we will be able to repeat the same figures as last year, that is, about 980,000 registrations.” For this reason, they focus on direct aid and taxation that favors this transition. From Ganvam they point out that there were two more business days than in 2023, but they applaud the “growth of the business channel, after nine consecutive months of decline”, as well as the fact that individual purchases concentrate close to half of the sales volume, ” which is also a notable fact.
Best-selling brands and models
In a market in which hybrid cars are gaining so much weight, it is not surprising that it is toyota the brand that sells the most, both in the month of October and in the accumulated of the year, where it makes almost 24,000 cars a difference Volkswagen. Third of the month is renault… although in the accumulated it is hyundai the one who occupies that position, with Seat on the lookout.
As for the best-selling models on the Spanish market, it is no longer news to see the Dacia Sandero or the Toyota Corolla in the top positions. The Toyota Yaris Cross is rising like foam after its recent update:
We leave you with the list of the 10 best-selling models and a detail: There is not a single Stellantis model on the list. And there are many brands…
