For the first time in their illustrious stories, the three models have fallen under the responsibility of the same Large Project Leader (LPL), Takashi Yagi. With more than three decades of experience working in Honda, Yagi-san shares his ideas and knowledge in this little interview:
P: The Super Cub is the best -selling motor vehicle in history and was manufactured for the first time in 1958. The Monkey came out in 1961 and the history of the Dax dates back to 1969. What does it feel like to receive the commission to update such names celebrities?
A: I got quite “nervous” when I received the order of models with such historical names in the Honda range, but, at the same time, I also felt delighted to work is these models of recreational approach.
P: This is the first time that a single engineer has been in charge of these three icons. Why were you chosen to direct all these projects?
A: I like the Cub engine! I would like to say that it was for that, but I think the main reason is that I was working in Thailand, the country where these models are manufactured.
P: Having spent time in Thailand, which has a huge motorcyclist culture and has seen a great interest in personalization. How does that time influence your attitude towards these models?
A: My experience in Thailand allowed me to see firsthand how motorcycles are connected to the lives of many people. Not only do they transport their families to school and work, but also carry the tools of their trade, some even turned their entire motorcycles into street food stalls, or turned them into tools to express themselves and show off them before others.
P: What are the main changes in the three 2025 models?
A: The main developments are for compliance with Euro 5+ OBD2-2 regulations, to offer new body colors and, at the same time, simultaneously develop Honda original accessories that are those that can offer confidence to the user.
P: Would you say there is a common element to the three models that makes them attractive?
A: All models are born from the universal philosophy of Honda to “approach the client”, a style that has been transmitted over the years and that has been redefined by combining it with current technology. The Monkey incorporates an exclusive design gas tank, a comfortable seat, headlights, rear and intermittent drivers. The traditional style of the Monkey has been recreated with chrome pieces located in several places to shine.
The Dax has also reproduced the pressed frame that combines the style and chassis of the original, so that it can take advantage of the power and benefits of a 125 cc engine. It has a simple style without bumps such as a normal gas tank. The Super Cub reproduces the fluid style of the historic C100 model of Honda.
P: The three are 125 cc models for the A1 card, but they have very different (and strong) identities compared to other motorcycles and Honda Scooter. What would you say is its greatest attraction for young motorists or for young people who are interested in the 2 wheels?
A: I believe that the advantages of these models are the satisfaction of possessing a small model, but with high quality image, their ease of use, and the tranquility of knowing that it has enough dynamic benefits.
P: Do you have any personal favorite among the three? And why?
A: The Dax is my favorite because I was responsible for the project from the development phase to chain production as a new model.
