Disney buys Yamaha Motor headquarters for $115 million

In the early stages of this year Yamaha Engine officially announced that it was moving its Yankee headquarters from Cypress, California, to Kennesaw, Georgia: “This transfer will be carried out in stages, from the end of 2026 to the end of 2028”they stated then. At the same time, they also made known their intention to “proceed with the sale of all YMUS fixed assets in Cypress, including land, offices and warehouses.”

The main reason for this corporate decision seems to be related to improving the efficiency of its assets and increasing profitability in the United States. Of course, issues as bloody as the issue of tariffs come into play here, to which the brand made reference by explaining: “Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. is undertaking structural reforms aimed at improving the profitability of its US operations.”

He concluded: “In response to increased costs resulting from US tariffs and changes in the market environment.” In addition, it announced the implementation of cost reduction initiatives in all its business areas, seeking “build a benefits structure that does not depend exclusively on revenue growth, thus transforming into a more resilient and solid organization, capable of adapting to change.”

Yamaha has operated in California for half a century

The Cypress facility has served as Yamaha Motor USA’s headquarters for approximately 50 years, since the brand acquired the land in 1978 and established the office in 1979. However, in response to changes in the company’s business focus in the Yankee market, the Boating division moved to Kennesaw in 1999. In 2019 they moved the Motor Sports division.

Until now these macro installations were intended for “corporate functions and the Financial Services division. The total land area is approximately 25.1 acres (approximately 102,000 square meters)”. At the time of the announcement Yamaha Motor made it clear that its main idea regarding the sale of these facilities was:

“Utilize a sale and leaseback agreement for a set period of time to ensure business continuity and facilitate a smooth relocation to Kennesaw.” Without referring to economic issues, they concluded by stating that “Details such as the sale price, buyer and timing of the transaction are currently under review.”

Disney and Yamaha reach a purchase and sale agreement

Now, thanks to the media associated with Disney, WDW News Today, we have been made aware of the real estate operation carried out last September 23 between Yamaha Motor Corp. and The Walt Disney Company worth $115.29 million. This includes an agreement by which “Yamaha will begin vacating the property in late 2026 and is expected to have completely abandoned it by 2028.”

The campus is located less than seven miles from Disneyland Resort. Disney has stated that the location will host “internal operations”but has not provided additional information at this time on possible uses. Likewise, Yamaha has not disclosed the details of this million-dollar purchase and sale operation, although, as the commercial agreement clearly reflects, it will extend at least until 2028, as initially planned by the Japanese company.
