More than three decades have passed since Ducati launched the iconic Monster 900 on the market, and it goes without saying what the model meant for the brand at all levels. All this without talking about what it has represented and continues to do so within the history of the Italian firm. Behind it remains a countless trail of models, versions and limited editions, all of them marked by a unique and unrepeatable philosophy.
Monster 900: setting the trend
Shown for the first time during the celebration of the “International Motorcycle Fair” of Cologne in 1992, the Monster 900 sought to represent, in the words of Miguel Ángel Galluzzifather of the creature “sports minimalism made a motorcycle”. To do this, all those superfluous aspects were abandoned: “All you need is: seat, tank, motor, two wheels and handlebars”explained at the time this “famous Youtuber.”
The result was a mount with a strong personality based mainly on its nakedness. Furthermore, this served to show us the function assigned to each and every one of its components. Nothing was there “just because”: its characteristic tubular chassis, the renowned 904 cc twin-cylinder engine or its brief silhouette were parts of a final whole that resulted in a completely new and revolutionary concept. Since then, the initial idea has evolved generation after generation until reaching the present day.
It is currently the model that has been in the manufacturer’s catalog the longest, with more than 250,000 units manufactured to date in its countless versions. However, as they say, “nothing like the first.” If there is also the possibility of being able to release it in 2026, we can already tell you that this 1993 Ducati Monster 900 is possibly the “Holy Grail” of the model that we have all dreamed of owning at some point.
A Monster 900, 33 years old and 17 km
There is no doubt that the first generation Monster 900 has become a desired object for collectors and lovers of the Italian brand in recent years. Within the current offer of the model we can find examples in a truly optimal condition, either because they are very well cared for or because they have been restored, totally or partially.
What you don’t expect is to come across a brand new 1993 Monster 900. Or that is at least what the current owner of the unit advertised in the Moto IT advertisements section claims. As explained “It is a new Ducati Monster 900 from 1993, purchased from a dealer that same year.” He also states that “It was always stored in his office, unused.”.
Apparently in 2015, the dealership that purchased the motorcycle in the year it was launched closed. This is where the current owner comes into the picture, claiming to have bought it then. Clarifies his current status: “With its original 1993 tires, it is the holy grail of Monsters! There is no other 1993 Monster 900 in this condition. A true collector’s item.”
The problem?… The same as always: pasta. Ask for 50,000 euros for ita figure that is five times the price of other copies in perfect magazine condition. Of course they are not brand new, but this unit in question still seems somewhat expensive.
By the way, if I had that amount in the bank, destined to give me a “little whim”, I assure you that I would not be typing these lines but rather piloting that beauty.
