Ducati comes out on rumors of its possible sale

A summer not to forget this 2026, right? Even less so when one of the most important corporate operations in the two-wheeled sector in recent years appears to be in the making: the acquisition of Ducati on the part of Patritalia for a final sum of 2.5 billion euros. However, those from Borgo Panigale seem to have a clear message on the matter: “Ducati is a solid and successful brand, but no decision has yet been made about its sale.”

Rumors grow about the sale of Ducati

It is understandable that Ducati comes out with very diplomatic and measured statements. In fact, in the last few hours this is what they have had to do as a result of the immense commotion created a couple of weeks ago when the news of its possible sale broke. Then Massimo Ros, founder of Patritalia SpA left no doubt on the subject when asked:

“I can confirm that the rumors are founded. Patritalia SpA has formally expressed its interest and is fully prepared to acquire 100% of Ducati Motor Holding SpA.” A business move that left the sector in shock, although Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati, tried to downplay that possibility.

“A matter of state”

Without a doubt one of the relevant aspects of the matter is the patriotic tone in which Ros expressed himself when the news and his company’s supposed plans for the transalpine firm became known: “The only mission I set behind the creation of Patritalia is to ‘bring back home’ our Italian companies and iconic Italian brands that are currently under foreign ownership and return them to Italian control.”

He concluded by stating: “Our goal is to promote a form of industrial recovery, allowing these historic brands to once again be guided by Italian vision, culture and creativity, with the aim of restoring the soul of the Italian entrepreneurial spirit.” In the last few hours, it has also been confirmed that Patritalia not only wants Ducati; also MV Agusta and promises to return them to “Italian hands.”

Trying to put out fires

As a result of all this information, Ducati managers have tried to calm the situation in recent hours through a brief official statement where they affirm that “Ducati is a solid and successful company”. They also clarify that “The review of its product portfolio is part of the responsible management of the Group.”

Lastly, they assure that “At the moment, no decision has been made regarding the sale of Ducati. As a general rule, we do not comment on individual offers. We will be happy to inform you if there is any news to share.” But the reality is that so far, only one of the parties (and it is not Ducati) has communicated its intentions in this important business operation.

National media close to the Italian brand claim that “It is unknown whether Patritalia’s offer is considered insufficient, whether the Group is evaluating other options or whether it has decided to retain Ducati due to its high strategic value and profitability. Therefore, the situation does not yet appear to be resolved.” This means that uncertainty will continue to be the general tone in this whole matter.
