Taking advantage of its experience in Superbike and MotoGP, Ducati Corse has developed a specific algorithm for the Desmo450 MX that calculates an engine stress index in real time, based on operating parameters and conditions of use. This index also takes into account the type of terrain on which the motorcycle circulates and continuously increases an engine wear counter expressed as a percentage.
The system then uses this counter to update maintenance schedules, which can be consulted via the Ducati X-Link app. In this way, the inspection and maintenance intervals of the Desmo450 MX They adapt to the rider’s riding style, with more frequent checks for professional or intensive use, or less frequent checks for amateur motorcyclists, which goes beyond traditional fixed calendars.
If the load on the engine is less than expected in the maintenance due date calculation —based on Alessandro Lupino’s use of the motorcycle—, it is possible to postpone the revision, which means savings for the client and longer intervals between revisions.
Therefore, the interval for MID service, which consists of replacing the piston and checking the valve clearances, can range from 45 to 60 hours, depending on the actual wear of the engine. Likewise, a complete engine overhaul of the Desmo450 MX (FULL service) can take between 90 and 120 hours.
