This “Grom 250» is a creation that defies conventions, being modified with the single-cylinder engine of the Honda CBR250Rincreasing its power of 9.65 HP to 29 HP.
The person in charge of this transformation is Mr. Masato Suzuki, who used an assembly kit available in the United States to carry out the modification. Masato replaced the original 124 cc engine of the first generation Grom (JC61) with the 249 cc DOHC 4-valve engine of the CBR250R.
Although it faced technical challenges, such as the need to modify the exhaust and intake systems, the end result is a Grom that maintains a surprising balance, despite the increase in weight and power.
During the test on the minibike circuit Keiyo Speedlandin Chiba (Japan), the Grom 250 proved to be incredibly agile, despite the radical modification. Unlike the standard model, which had already been customized with a 164 cc engine, the Grom 250 stands out for its impressive torque. Although at first it seems that the additional weight could be a problem, in practice, the driving is similar to that of a Grom normal, resulting in a surprisingly balanced driving experience.
The acceleration process is smooth and the vehicle displays remarkable stability even at high speeds. Although the larger, water-cooled engine adds weight, it does not significantly compromise maneuverability.
This modification project raises the idea of a new type of motorcycle that, while maintaining the compact size and ease of driving of the minibikes, incorporates greater power that could transform it into a viable option for traveling or even for sporting use. Despite the modifications, the Grom 250 It doesn’t feel like a dangerous experiment, but rather a natural evolution that could appeal to those looking for something more potent.
