Finding his own limits and those of the motorcycle, that has been and continues to be Guy Martin’s goal. That is why it has a certain poetic or even comical tone that he is now facing two sanctions for being excessively fast.
But of course, we’re not talking about “ex-good” Guy breaking any records, even though he’s after it right now with a Hayabusa and the idea of reaching 300 miles per hour from a standstill in one mile… No. It turns out that Martin was caught driving above the speed limits in Northamptonshire and Leicestershire.
Two independent and different infractions, but which have had an obvious consequence: adding 12 license points (the system is the opposite of that in Spain where they are subtracted) and, therefore, being suspended from driving. A situation that many citizens experience and that is that limits are there to be met. That is the same reason why Guy has not appealed, accepting the sanction and apologizing for the situation.
Thus, as the MCN colleagues relate, their legal representatives conveyed it to the judge: “He apologizes to the court for his infractions. He will not oppose the six-month disqualification due to the accumulation of points”. He was therefore sentenced to pay a total of £1,329 including fines, costs and surcharges.
What were Guy Martin’s violations?
Well, if you were expecting Guy to have broken the speed limits, that wasn’t exactly the case. The first of the sanctions was received on July 15, 2025 near Leicester, going 46 miles per hour in a place limited to 40 (74 km/h in a 64 zone).
The second arrived in a construction zone that is usually limited to 70 miles per hour and at that time it was at 50, going to 78. That is, the normal limit would have been exceeded anyway, but in this case in a section of 80 km/h it went to 125.5.
A small mark on the record of one of the most charismatic road race drivers, even though he never won the TT. Another of Guy’s paradoxes.
