As if by chance, three weeks have passed since the Goodwood Festival of Speed, but we are still discovering “little things”. And one of them is a Royal Enfield Adventure that slipped in among so many retro bikes, hypercars and Travis Pastrana destroying his Subaru…
The fact is that, at first glance, the bike did not seem to stand out too much and could, from a distance, be passed off as a classic bike. But when you look at the details, you end up realising that it was not a classic bike at all, that it had the Royal Enfield logo and that the engine was also from the British firm.
So, were we looking at a new Royal Enfield Adventure? Yes, but not in the way we expected. The work is a collaboration in which David Gwyther of Death Spray Custom has contributed his grain of sand. Officially, and according to what he told his colleagues at MCN during the event, it was a project that he had been working on with Royal for three years and in which he himself wanted to make a nod to the Dakar bikes of his childhood.
There is much more to Royal in this Royal Enfield Adventure than a simple collaboration suggests
But, of course, then the details of the bike began to emerge. The engine of this new Royal Enfield Adventure is, as we have said, from Royal Enfield and more specifically the twin-cylinder from a GT / Interceptor although it has internal modifications that apparently raise the displacement to 850 cc. The chassis is from Harris, property of Royal Enfield and so is the exhaust. In addition to that, it has other expressly manufactured elements of which we have no details.
The thing is that there are no coincidences and if the engine of this new Royal Enfield Adventure is Royal, and the main part of the rest of the bike is from a brand owned by Royal, that is because the firm has a lot to do with the project. So some time later the colleagues at MCN were able to contact Mark Wells during the presentation of the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 and, simply, they asked.
Wells said it was not developed as a concept bike, but also claimed that it is a requested product. He was totally diplomatic and leaves us wondering whether or not we will see this “fat” Royal Enfield Adventure in the near future. What is certain is that it would be a very interesting bet.
