Honda continues to expand its family of adventure-inspired scooters with the arrival of the new ADV125 2027, a proposal that transfers the brand’s Adventure concept to the 125 cc segment. After the success of models such as the X-ADV and the ADV350, the Japanese manufacturer is now betting on a more accessible alternative, aimed especially at A1 license users and those looking for an urban scooter with a different personality.
The idea is not completely new. In 2017, Honda introduced with the X-ADV a concept that combined the practicality of a scooter with the aesthetics and possibilities of an adventure motorcycle. That formula gave rise to a new category, the so-called City Adventure, which was later expanded with smaller displacement models. Now, the ADV125 takes this same approach and adapts it to the needs of daily mobility, without giving up a robust image and certain capabilities for traveling on difficult terrain.
Its proposal is based on an aesthetic inspired by SUVs, a high driving position and a chassis with suspensions with greater travel than those usual in a conventional scooter. To this it adds a four-valve eSP+ engine, Honda RoadSync connectivity, a five-inch TFT screen and different practical solutions for everyday life. A combination with which Honda wants to offer more than just a means of urban transportation.
Honda ADV125 2027 engine
The new Honda ADV125 uses the well-known 125 cc single-cylinder eSP+ engine, liquid-cooled and with four-valve SOHC distribution. It is a mechanism that shares a base with that used by the PCX125, although adapted to the characteristics of this new adventure-oriented scooter.
Its official figures announce a maximum power of 9.2 kW (12.5 HP) at 8,750 rpm and a torque of 11.7 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The bore and stroke stand at 53.5 and 55.5 mm respectively, while the compression ratio reaches 11.5:1. Power is provided by a PGM-FI electronic injection system.
Honda has worked especially to reduce internal friction and improve overall efficiency. Among its technical solutions we find an off-center cylinder to reduce friction between the piston and the sleeve, an interior coating with small protuberances that helps control deformations and a hydraulic tensioner for the distribution chain.
It also incorporates oil jets directed at cooling the piston, a solution that allows better control of the operating temperature and optimization of the combustion process. The lubrication system integrates the oil pump in the crankcase itself, while the radiator is located outside the right side of the engine to achieve efficient cooling with a compact assembly.
The transmission is an automatic CVT type, with centrifugal clutch and belt final drive. In this way, the ADV125 maintains the simplicity of use that characterizes scooters of this displacement. According to Honda, it reaches a maximum speed of 97 km/h and can maintain cruises close to 90 km/h.
Another of its strong points is consumption. The brand declares a figure of 2.1 l/100 km, equivalent to about 47.6 km/l in the WMTC cycle. With an 8.1 liter tank, the theoretical range is approximately 385 km, an interesting figure for those who use the scooter daily.
The mechanical section is completed with the Idling Stop system, which automatically stops the engine when it remains at idle for three seconds with the vehicle stopped and the brakes applied. Simply twist the accelerator to get it going again. In addition, it incorporates the Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) traction control, which monitors rear wheel slip and can be disconnected when the driver considers it necessary.
Chassis, suspensions and brakes of the Honda ADV125 2027
One of the elements that differentiates the ADV125 from a conventional urban scooter is its chassis part approach. Honda has developed a double-cradle tubular steel frame, designed to offer resistance and a solid base both in the city and when the asphalt is no longer in good condition.
The suspensions are Showa on both trains. At the front we find a 31 mm diameter telescopic fork, with 116 mm of wheel travel, while at the rear it is equipped with two shock absorbers with external gas tank and 103 mm of travel. This configuration seeks to improve the absorption of potholes, expansion joints and other common obstacles in urban environments.
The ground clearance reaches 165 mm, a fact that reinforces its possibilities for driving on simple paths, compact tracks or deteriorated surfaces. It is not intended to be a scooter with true off-road capabilities, but it does offer a greater range of use than a purely urban proposal.
The wheels also contribute to that personality. The ADV125 rides on 14-inch cast wheels at the front and 13 at the rear, shod with mixed-tread Pirelli Tourance tires. Its measurements are 110/80-14 for the front axle and 130/70-13 for the rear axle. It is a combination that seeks to balance stability, comfort and the ability to face surfaces of different nature.
In the braking section we find wavy discs on both axles, with 240 mm at the front and 220 mm at the rear. The teams are signed by Nissin, with a double-piston front caliper and a single-piston rear caliper. The ABS system is one channel.
Regarding its dimensions, it declares a wheelbase of 1,324 mm, a turning radius of two meters and a curb weight of 133 kg. The seat height is 780 mm, a measure that facilitates access for users of different sizes and helps control the scooter during low-speed maneuvers.
Technology and equipment of the Honda ADV125 2027
Technology is another of the important arguments of the new Honda ADV125. Although it is an access model to the ADV family, Honda has not wanted to limit its equipment and has incorporated solutions that we usually find in larger displacement scooters.
The driving position is dominated by a five-inch color TFT screen, which offers a clear presentation of information and allows the use of the Honda RoadSync connectivity system. By connecting with the smartphone, the user can access certain functions such as navigation, music and messaging, keeping their attention on driving.
It also has a USB Type-C socket to charge electronic devices while on the go and the Honda SMART Key system. This smart key allows you to manage the ignition, seat and opening of the tank without having to insert a conventional key. In addition, it incorporates anti-theft and response functions to locate the vehicle.
Aerodynamic protection is provided by a screen that is adjustable in two positions, with an adjustment range of 75 mm using a sliding mechanism. In its low position it favors greater air entry, while when raised it provides superior protection against wind and inclement weather.
Ergonomics have also been especially taken care of. The driving position is upright, with an ergonomic triangle designed to reduce fatigue and improve visibility in traffic. The seat has a narrow profile to facilitate foot support when standing.
In terms of safety, in addition to HSTC traction control, it incorporates the Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) system. This device automatically activates the turn signals during sudden braking to warn vehicles behind of sudden deceleration.
The lighting is completely LED, both front and rear, and the practical equipment is completed with a space under the seat with a capacity of 29 liters, enough to store a full-face helmet. Added to this is a two-liter front glove box, bringing the total storage capacity to 31 liters.
Colors and options of the 2027 Honda ADV125
The 2027 Honda ADV125 will hit the market with four color options, all of them new for this version:
As for original accessories, Honda has prepared a selection of elements aimed at improving the comfort, loading capacity and protection of the scooter.
These include heated grips, especially interesting for those who use the ADV125 all year round, and an acoustic safety alarm to reinforce protection when parked.
A set consisting of a rear support and a 40-liter Smart Top Box trunk will also be available. This accessory integrates with the Honda SMART Key system, allowing it to be opened without having to take the key out of your pocket. Finally, the catalog includes an outer cover to protect the scooter when it is parked.
