Julio Lopez (@juliolopez814) has four Spanish motocross championships and currently competes in Rally. The 40-year-old from Madrid is also the founder of the largest motocross and trail schools in Europe, 8.14 Army and 8.14 Trail. He is a motorcycle tester for specialized magazines and ambassador for several brands in the off-road world. He has recently signed for Kove Spain as an official driver.
As if all of the above were not enough, recently has managed to make the longest jump ever recorded on an adventure motorcycle. The Madrid native has flown for 67 meters with his Kove 800X Rally and has surpassed the previous mark held by the American Colby Rahaof 62.48 meters, considered until now the best record with a motorcycle with more than one cylinder.
Julio López’s jump in a unique enclave
Beyond the number, what is truly shocking is how and where he achieved it. Julio López wanted to go further than anyone else and do it in a very special place. Specifically, the Bergisel Olympic ski springboard, the most emblematic in Europe, located in Innsbruck (Austria).
There, together with a very small team of people he trusted and a very limited budget, he faced this giant with a take-off ramp 120 meters high and a slope of 128 meters to the landing zone. An feat surrounded by bad weather throughout the day, with heavy rain that left the takeoff and landing surface completely soaked.
Despite this, Julio López decided to jump, assuming the extra risk that it entailed and achieved his mark. The same one that verified the Bergisel station itself, delivering the certificate accrediting it to its director, Bernhard Niggler. After reaching his goal, the Madrid pilot commented: “It has been a real fight against my own mind.”
“We had everything against us: bad weather, wind, rain, and an ultra-complex setup since we had to build a landing zone without being able to drill into the original structure of the station. But I couldn’t leave Bergisel without jumping and I went all in. I was only able to make three attempts since the weather conditions were too adverse and my team had to stop me. But I know I can go much further.”
He concluded: “I am very happy to have achieved it and to show that by dreaming big, even if you are small, you can achieve great things. Now I want to go for the 100 meters! I want to thank all the brands that have supported me in this challenge since without them it would have been impossible.”
The Biggest Jump: A record-breaking jump worthy of a documentary
This sporting feat will be told in the documentary The Biggest Jump that will be broadcast on various platforms and whose premiere will be in Madrid in December. In it, as explained by the organization, all the drama of this adventure in which a group of friends embark and who, with very limited resources, achieve a feat on par with the biggest athletes and brands, will be reflected.
