Sling continues to devise systems to achieve its objective of zero deaths in traffic accident to the year 2050. That is why new patents related to security that will equip the motorcycles of the future. An example of this is one of his latest designs related to the direction of a motorcycle, which we have met through Ride Apart’s teammates.
A priori it might seem that we talk about a kind of assisted address and even a management shock absorber to use. However, if we are guided by the patent description, we can verify that we are facing an independent system that would work in a coordinated manner with the data offered by the ECU. Your mission, “Avoid low speed falls.”
Last Honda patent in detail
As detailed in the information completed with the design of the Honda patent: “When a motorcycle is running, turn operations are often carried out successively in different directions, such as a left turn, immediately followed by a right turn. When the driver turns the handlebar to perform these turn operations successively, there has been a problem of discomfort if a stabilization control of the attitude is carried out, specifically an assistance of the management to maintain the upright attitude. ”
As we see in this first description already tells us about an assistant to keep the direction right when putting the motorcycle straight once we have drawn several curves in different directions. But Honda’s text continues to explain that: “An aspect of the present invention … Includes: an address actuator that applies a pair in a address address to a suspension device that supports a steering wheel; A first detection means that detects an angular swing speed of a vehicle. ”
Concludes: “And a control apparatus that controls the steering actuator, based on the angular balance velocity detected by the first detection medium, to apply the torque to the suspension device, in which the control apparatus: includes control modes, including the modes a first control mode that performs control to apply a first torque of predetermined address, and a second control mode that performs control to apply a second torque of direction smaller than the first pair of address; and change between the first control mode and the second control mode if a default condition is satisfied. ”
Again, there is talk of an actuator that applies to the direction depending on the angle of inclination in which it is in each moment. For this, it makes use of different modes of intrusion in driving, depending on whether it establishes that we can be on the verge of a fall. This example is clairvoyant when we talk about low speed driving with the possibility of losing balance in any sudden handlebar movement.
In fact, it is not the first time that we know a Honda patent related to this issue. Already in 2021 the Japanese brand patented a system of assistance to the direction that theoretically intervene in the case of emergency situations in which the wheels lose adhesion. It could function as in cars, with a slight movement that is copied by the driver.
A similar system, also signed by Honda, could help us against cross wind and warn us of the lane change. Here we would find an actuator, as an address shock absorber, which would be in charge of attending it in case of sideline winding. Installed in the head of the address, this Honda system would work together with an electronic switchboard that in turn would collect different data and parameters by means every moment.
Regarding the involuntary lane change warning system, Honda thought of a vibration system at the end of the handlebar, which would act based on the information collected by the different intelligent systems with which the motorcycle has. It would also have several vibration modes, with the intention of offering us different messages of attention depending on their importance. As with the controls of video consoles, a system of this type would offer us real -time information of the motorcycle position at all times.
Finally and related to this topic we have the patent that Yamaha presented at the beginning of last year 2022. In it we found the system called EPS, responsible for acting both at low speed and quick . The so -called “Assisted Directorate of Motorcycles”, was tested at the time in Sendas YZF450FM and a competition YZ250F, although for the moment we have not had news again.
