Royal Enfield, the quintessential classic motorcycle manufacturer in India, has taken a further step in expanding its range with the new Interceptor Bear 650. Following the recent launch of the Guerrilla 450the brand is now turning its attention to its 650cc platform. The Interceptor Bear 650, whose design has already been registered, promises to be one of the most prominent and lightweight offerings from Royal Enfield in the 650cc motorcycle segment.
Since the launch of the 650 Twins, Royal Enfield has redefined its image, offering motorcycles with smooth engines, active oil cooling and a 6-speed gearbox. With this platform, the brand has consolidated its dominance in the 500cc+ motorcycle segment in India, achieving a 90% market share and excellent sales in Europe. The Interceptor Bear 650 will retain most of the design cues of the Interceptor 650, but with innovations that adapt it to the scrambler style.
These are the features of the Royal Enfield Interceptor Bear 650
New features include an inverted telescopic fork at the front, front and rear LED indicators, a reinforced scrambler-style handlebar and mixed CEAT tyres (the global model is expected to come with Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tyres). In addition, the bike will feature a single-sided exhaust system, which should reduce its weight to less than 200kg. A very interesting figure indeed.
The Interceptor Bear 650 will be equipped with the same 648cc oil-cooled parallel twin engine as its 650cc siblings, delivering 47bhp of peak power and 52Nm of peak torque, meaning it can be used with the A2 without any throttle restriction.
This engine will be mated to a 6-speed gearbox with slipper clutch. It will also feature Royal Enfield’s Tripper Dash display, also found on the Guerrilla 450 and Himalayan 450, allowing use of Google Maps, music control and a wide range of connectivity features via a smartphone app.
As for pricing, the Interceptor Bear 650 is expected to cost around €3,500 in its local market, positioning itself as one of the most affordable multi-cylinder scramblers on the market. Its launch is expected in late 2024 or early 2025.
