A few days ago we reviewed the great debuts of MotoGP pilots in the Superbike World Cup, believing that Augusto Fernández would be the next to make the leap. It is not that we venture, it is that in his new Yamaha pilot facet he is a tester and substitute, which is why he was in the WSBK tests in Portimao preparing the race of March 30.
With what nobody counted, including Augusto Fernández himself, is that Miguel Ángel Oliveira was injured again by a new fall, in which Fermín Aldeguer took him ahead and the Portuguese had no blame. Oliveira’s misfortune gives to study it separately, because the now Pramac pilot has a streak in which, without being his fault, he ends up wrapped in falls in which he always is injured.
On this occasion the fall has not produced fractures, but problems in his shoulder and sternum, so Oliveira will not be able to participate in the GP of the Americas. Therefore, with that “carambola”, Yamaha has decided to call Augusto Fernández to replace Oliveira instead of doing so with Jonathan Rea.
Will Yamaha replace Augusto Fernández on the Rea Moto?
For now we do not know if Yamaha will send or not another pilot to replace Augusto Fernández on the Yamaha R1 of Jonathan Rea. But what is certain is that the Mallorcan will come back to the M1, with which he has already been doing multiple tests during the preseason.
Although in those tests we did not see great times of Fernández, we must not forget that the work of a tester does not have to consist of marking good records, but in working and simulating situations that later official pilots can be found in a weekend of Grand Prix.

In any case, the reality is that compared to the rest of the Parilla pilots, Augusto only two major awards will have been lost, since it must be remembered that he was part of the Tech3 Gasgas until the last race of 2024 and, therefore, only the GP of Thailand and Argentina has been lost.
