After several months, of different reports and several studies, it seems that Finally Liberty Media will be able to acquire Dorna Sports and thereby get the rights of, among other championships, MotoGP.
According to the information shared by Reuters, Liberty Media that already has the rights of F1, seems to have received the approval of the antimonopoly authority of the European Union, despite the fact that the final resolution is not yet public and official.
In this way, Liberty Media will keep 86% of Dorna’s shares for a value of 3,500 million euros. While the remaining 14% of the company’s shares will continue to belong to their current shareholders.
It should not be ignored that the agreement, made public a year ago, would imply that in a single company the two most important motor championships of the world landscape such as F1 and MotoGP were accumulated. That would give a position of power to Liberty Media when it comes to negotiating with organizers, sponsors, televisions … and precisely those aspects are part of what the European Union and its antimonopoly commission has to value.
The European Commission is expected to not officially pronounce until July 1
As the information includes and despite the fact that the matter has been carefully analyzed, as we said, see if they were incurred in monopolistic actions, the European Commission seems to have not found a problem in this regard after investigating not only to treasure the championships, but also the fact that Liberty Media could exclude rival television chains in countries such as Belgium, Ireland and Holland where Liberty Global Malone is established.
As we say, it is not yet official and it is not expected to be before July 1, but the leaks suggest that the operation will finally go ahead.
