The well-known X-Games Extreme Sports event, for its 2025 edition, has decreed the prohibition of MX electric motorcycles, referring to the argument of “Maintain equal conditions” Among all participants. Undoubtedly, not everyone has reacted in the same way to a categorical decision of this type, especially those pilots who use some state -of -the -art plug -in model for their exhibitions.
In any case, it is the less striking this position by the organization of the X-Games, even more taking into account that precisely the MX segment is one where the brands dedicated to the development and subsequent manufacture of electric motorcycles destined for this use have advanced the most. A good example of this is Stark Future, the Catalan company of high performance electric motorcycles.
Account in its catalog with a model capable of rivaling the most powerful combustion motocross motorcycles on the planet. They even offer their customers the variar variar ex, the most powerful enduro motorcycle with no less than 80 hp. Now, all this does not seem to be enough for the X-Games to let electric models similar to the Future Stark participate.
X-Games gives its version of the facts
While they have not issued an official statement to explain the reasons for this decision (we have no record at the time of writing these lines), Ride Aprato’s companions have asked them directly on the main argument in which they are based to implement this new regulation and this has been the official answer of the organization of the X-Games:
“In the X-Games, we are committed to preserving the essence of action sports, while continuously evaluating new technologies. Our current competition formats are designed around the performance and characteristics of traditional gasoline motorcycles, which remain the world standard for the elite competition.”
They conclude: “While we recognize the advances in electric motorcycle technology, we focus on maintaining equal conditions and offering the best experience both to our athletes and our fans. We will closely follow the evolution of sport and evaluate how new innovations are integrated into the competitions of the X-Games.”
Perhaps the most irritating fact of this whole matter, at least for those participants who intended to show their talent to the controls of an electric MX, is that “They did not inform anyone about this prohibition in advance … The participants were informed while reading the invitations and rules of the events, both for the X-Games Japan and for the X-Games Salt Lake City. They were not told anything and the rules spread to all the participants, not only to those who drove electric vehicles”as explained by Ride Apart.
Said this, other theories suggest that the four great Japanese, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki could be behind this decision having pressed the organization of the X-Games.
We do not know what will be true in this argument, but for now, unfortunately for the show, the electric MX will have to look for other events where they demonstrate their worth in front of conventional motocross motorcycles.
