LiveWire recalls nearly 800 Del Mar and Mulholland S2s over fuse issues

After the legal setback that Harley-Davidson has been subjected to, condemned to pay 287 million dollars for an accident, now comes a new setback. They have now launched a recall of a total of 778 motorcycles divided between 574 Del Mar units and another 214 Mulholland units.

According to the recall issued by the NTSA, models produced between July 26, 2023, and February 27, 2024, are affected by the fault. The NTSA statement describes the problem as follows: “Certain 2024 model year LiveWire (S2 Del Mar) motorcycles within the production range are part of those affected by the recall. These motorcycles contain a high voltage fuse that is the subject of this recall. The number of motorcycles of this make/model/year covered by this recall is 574. Motorcycles manufactured after those affected have a high voltage fuse with an increased amperage rating.”

This problem also extends, as we said, to the Mulholland version and as described in the statement, the models produced after February 27 of this year 2024 already have the fuse fault fixed.

As for the fault, it is estimated that only 2% of the 788 units would have any problem and that is a figure lower than the 16 units in total. If the fault occurred in the high voltage fuse, it seems that there were problems of sudden loss of propulsion.

This is the third recall of the LiveWire S2 Del Mar so far this year

Furthermore, the reported faults involved “repeated events of rapid acceleration”, which were therefore consistent with a particular type of driving. As far as those affected are concerned, there is no evidence that these faults have caused any accidents or injuries.

The problem occurred after repeated events of rapid acceleration

It is surprising, however, that LiveWire acted quickly in this process, as they first became aware of the problem on June 11, the investigation began on the 25th, and the process of reviewing the affected vehicles began on August 5.

It should be noted that this is not the first time that the LiveWire S2 del Mar has been affected by a recall, as in February a software problem was detected that could cause the engine to shut down and in March because nuts on the axle or the shock absorber could be loose. For its part, this is the first setback for the LiveWire S2 Mulholland.
