Macbor will participate for the first time as a team in the Dakar Rallywhich will celebrate its 2027 edition from January 1 to 15. The Spanish firm will face this new challenge together with Gerard Farrés, who will return to the Dakar motorcycle category for the first time since 2018. The brand had already accompanied Farrés as a sponsor in his sports projects in the last editions of the Dakar in the motorcycle category. Side by Side.
Two tests prior to the Dakarian appointment
Before facing the challenge in January, the Macbor team will participate in two tests in Morocco that will be part of its preparation calendar for the Dakar and will allow it to accumulate experience in the terrain and conditions typical of this type of competition. The first appointment will be 1000 Dunes Rally 2026which will travel through the Moroccan desert between Fez and Merzouga over six stages.
The test combines navigation and different types of terrain, offering the team an opportunity to continue working on their preparation for a long distance competition. Days later, Macbor and Gerard Farrés will start at the Addax Rallywhich will be held from October 25 to 30, 2026 in Merzouga.
With an approximate route of 1,600 kilometers, the test will allow you to work on roadbook navigation, one of Farrés’ specialties, and tackle sandy stages, rocky tracks and sectors around the Erg Chebbi. A demanding scenario to continue improving the adaptation to the terrain and the joint preparation of the driver and the team for the Dakar.
Dakar Rally 2027: one more step participating as a team
Macbor’s presence at the Dakar, as well as attendance for the fourth consecutive year at the Milan International Motorcycle Show (EICMA 2026), is part of the international expansion plan that constitutes one of the main strategic axes of the brand. It already has a presence in reference European markets such as Spain, France and Portugal as the most consolidated.
Over the last two years, the brand has expanded its international presence with the addition of markets such as Benelux, Poland, Switzerland and the Baltic countriesamong others. In this context, the Dakar represents an opportunity for projection for the company in a global competition and thus accompany the evolution of the brand beyond its main markets.
The relationship between Grupo Motos Bordoy and the Dakar
Macbor’s participation in the Dakar 2027 gives continuity to the relationship that the Bordoy Motorcycle Group (owner of the firm) has been involved in the most important rally in the world for a long time. If in more recent times it has supported the driver Gerard Farrés as a sponsor, since the 90s, the group has supported the sports projects of leading Spanish figures such as Laia Sanz, Marc Coma or Jordi Arcaronsamong others.
In the case of Gerard Farrés, the collaboration responds to a relationship consolidated over the years. Ambassador of Macbor, and one of the most recognized Spanish names in rally raid, the man from Manresa has extensive experience in the Dakar, with 19 participations in the test behind him. In the motorcycle category he reached the podium in the 2017 edition, while in Side by Side he reached second place in 2022.
His career and his ability to face different disciplines make him an ideal partner for this new stage of the brand. The 2027 Dakar Rally, therefore, takes on a special emotional meaning for Farrés and Macbor. For Gerard this edition marks his return to the two wheels with which he started in the Rally. For the Spanish firm, the debut as a team in a “very special adventure” that reinforces its presence in the global market.
