Moto Guzzi could resurrect the V50 acronym with a new retro-style A2 motorcycle

This is not the first time (probably not the last) that we have talked about Moto Guzzi’s long-awaited access range. An idea that the R&D department of the Italian firm seems to be working on for some time now. Now the possibility of the brand recovering the acronym sounds strongly V50. Other sources rely on the commercial names “457” or “F45”although all of them focused on the same commercial line.

Moto Guzzi V50 2027: A long-awaited unlikely return

It has been approximately a year since we last discussed this topic, from the always interesting and accurate vision of Oberdan Bezzi. The idea presented by the well-known virtual creator was based on a stylized design in the form of a render that he himself baptized under the acronym F45, in honor of the model that Moto Guzzi marketed in the 80s under the same name, the V50 Monza.

As we already analyzed at the time, Bezzi’s work combined visual and technical coherence, but also commercial coherence. Basically because from their perspective a model should not be called a V50 if the engine that ends up powering it is a parallel twin. This is where the theory of a possible Moto Guzzi “457” or “F45” gains more strength. And not without reason. Let us remember in any case that the original V50 at the time had a 490 cm³ 90° V-twin engine.

Moto Guzzi could bring back the legendary V50 acronym

This was air-cooled and fed by 28 mm Dell ‘Orto carburetors. Both systems are currently totally unfeasible in a new model from Mandello del Lario’s firm. This is where the parallel twin-cylinder engine currently used by Aprilia, a brand integrated within the same business group as Moto Guzzi, comes into play to power its “457 range”.

We are referring to the already known parallel twin with double overhead camshaft, 8 valves in the cylinder head and crankshaft set at 270°. Currently the Noale brand declares a final power of 47.6 HP at 9,400 rpm and 65 Nm of maximum torque at 6,400 revolutions. An ideal engine to compete in the very tight category around the A2 license. Because let’s be serious; The idea that Moto Guzzi ends up developing an engine replicating the technical architecture that the V50 once enjoyed is practically a chimera.

Moto Guzzi could bring back the legendary V50 acronym

So, at this point we can only wonder when will be the ideal time, chosen by the brand, to present its new medium-displacement model. We also have doubts whether, along with this possible neo-retro style naked, Moto Guzzi will also release other models equipped with this same mechanics, but focused on other segments, such as sports or adventure frames. We will know soon.
