The last MotoGP Brno was held in 2020. After that last race, in 2021, the Czech circuit announced that it would withdraw from the list of world circuits due to its inability to afford the renovation of the asphalt and the necessary safety measures.
Until today, the Brno circuit has remained the venue for more traditional races with less global impact. But that is something that is about to change thanks to a change of ownership that will bring with it a sufficient injection of funds to invest in the renovation of the Czech track. MotoGP Brno will once again be a reality in the coming years.
Brno has hosted More than 50 Grand Prix since it first hosted MotoGP in 1965, establishing itself as a must-see destination for two-wheel enthusiasts. The first events were held on a street circuit before the Automotodrom Brno debuted on the calendar in 1987, hosting MotoGP annually until 2020, with a break in 1992.
Jan Šťovíček, President of Czech Republic Autoklub:
“I have always been confident that MotoGP would return to Brno. Over the years I have been asked many times by riders, team managers, people from Dorna and the FIM what is happening there and when we will return, because everyone loves MotoGP Brno. This has been made possible thanks to the change of ownership of the circuit, which has decided to invest in the development of this iconic facility. Many thanks to the Czech Government and Prime Minister Mr Fiala, the South Moravian Region and Governor Mr Grolich, the City of Brno and its Mayor Mrs Vaňková, and the event partner Creditas Group.”
Karel Hubáček, Chairman of the Board, Automotodrom Brno:
“I am pleased with the conclusion of the negotiations, which is the result of the constructive approach of all parties involved. I would like to thank the Autoklub of the Czech Republic and Dorna Sports for their genuine support for the idea of returning the Masaryk circuit to the map of the most prestigious motorcycle championship. At the same time, I greatly appreciate the favourable stance taken by the government, the South Moravian Region and the city of Brno. At the moment, we are fully focused on the next key stages of preparation to ensure that fans will have an exceptional experience.”
Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna
“We are delighted to be able to announce our return to Brno. It is a classic, fantastic track, which has been the scene of some truly memorable moments in its long MotoGP history. We are really excited to be back and put on more, with the Tissot Sprint every weekend and even more so for fans to enjoy on site and get closer than ever to their heroes. We have seen the slopes here filled with passion for our sport so many times – when it was the most attended Grand Prix of the year on several occasions – and we are very happy to bring MotoGP Brno back to our fans in the Czech Republic.”
Starting in 2025, a new chapter in the rich and prestigious racing history of Brno will begin, with the return of the Czech GP to the MotoGP calendar until 2029.
