Although since the intention of purchase of MotoGP by Liberty Media was announced, it was taken for granted that the transaction would be a success, it has been necessary to wait many months to end seeing the approval of the European Community before it could follow the expected course.
Of course, once the European Commission dismissed the possibility that antitrust laws were breached, the route has really been short and have only needed for a few days for Liberty Media to have officially done with 84% of Dorna’s actions and, therefore, acquire MotoGP rights.
In this way, Liberty Media becomes 100% of the rights of F1 and 84% of those of MotoGP, the two most important motor competitions in the world. But there is even more and that in Dorna’s “package” there are many more championships than Moto3, Moto2 and MotoGP.
From the entrance we have the Superbike World Championship with its three categories, the FIM Women’s Circuit Wolrd Championship, Fim Motoe World Championship, FIM June GP, Red Bull Rookies Cup, Asia, British and Northern Talent CPI and the FIM Miigp Wolrd Series.
Liberty Media does not raise changes in Dorna’s directive
All these championships will initially continue under the control of Dorna, who will keep his main management team with Carmelo Ezpeleta as CEO (since he has occupied since 1998), Enrique Aldama (Director of Operations and Finance), Dan Rossomomondo (Commercial Director) and Carlos Ezpeleta (Sports Director); So at least at the moment there does not seem to be changes in their efforts.
Going back in time, when Liberty Media took the F1, there were small subtle changes until the great change that has ended up catapulting the category to obtain current successes came.
We will see if in this case the pattern is repeated, because the difference on this occasion is that Liberty, despite having an overwhelming majority and, therefore, the decision -making capacity does not have 100% of the actions.
