In addition to the British GP, last weekend at Silverstone threads moved behind it that will directly affect the future of MotoGP. And there are issues that need some long-term regulation if situations like those experienced this year are to be avoided.
That is why, as reported by Motorsport.com, a meeting took place at the British circuit between the IRTA Management Counsil and Carlos Ezpeleta as MotoGP sports director. A meeting of about three hours in which different topics were discussed, but with one that could affect how the grills are being made in recent times.
And for some years now there have been contracts that are closed even before the start of the previous season, with more than a year ahead, and what MotoGP wants to introduce is what would be called the “transfer window.” It is a figure that exists in other sports such as football, where there is a deadline for hiring.
What is striking in this case is that, as Oriol Puigdemont reveals, we would be talking about a system by which no contract signed outside of that established time period would be valid. The aim is to avoid situations like the one we have experienced this year, in which signings have been made and communicated in the middle of the season, despite the fact that the agreements had been signed months before.

The bottom line is that with long-term contracts signed, the market is distorted and situations arise where places are practically awarded without taking into account the current year, but rather based on what has happened in previous years. Of course, this first meeting seems to have not achieved a unanimous agreement, so there will surely be new chapters before reaching the outcome and knowing whether it is put into practice or not.
Like everything, this measure will have its detractors and its supporters, but the essence of the idea has its meaning and is to provide the opportunity to continue in the category, and also with the best possible weapons to those pilots who are at their best.
Another thing, of course, is how MotoGP could ensure that the agreements are not closed with private contracts beforehand, with lawyers and notaries attesting (for example) and are only made official before the organization once the window opens. That is to say, the idea is good and has a noble purpose, but the complicated thing would be to implement it and ensure its effectiveness.
