We have already spoken on more than one occasion about the impressive arrival of Chinese manufacturers in Europe in recent times. Despite restrictions in the form of tariffs, it seems that the number of brands will still continue to grow. The last one to be presented has been FireflyIt is a firm under the umbrella of NIO, a manufacturer that has been operating on our continent for some time with models like the EC7 and that even has facilities in Hungary. With this brand you want an access positioning.
At the moment it has been presented in China, but there is already talk of its landing in Europe during the year 2025. Firefly’s intention is to launch small and compact electric models, a segment that is growing a lot in recent times. In fact, its leaders do not hesitate to affirm that they are going to compete mainly against MINI and Smart; two brands that are focusing on electrification and that have premium origins. MINI is owned by BMW and Smart shared between Mercedes and Geely.
The first model that Firefly has announced in China is a small utility vehicle that has a starting price of about 19,200 euros at the exchange rate (148,800 yuan). It is assumed that upon arrival in Europe the rate will be higher, and it has not been specified whether it includes the battery. We must not forget that NIO bet from the beginning by interchangeable batteries and it seems that the formula will continue with Firefly, at least in China.
Despite its small size and a turning radius of just 4.7 meters, the first Firefly model stands out for space that it offers. With the seats folded down you get a trunk space of 1,250 liters and the front trunk surprises with 92 liters. He design is quite peculiar and it may be slightly reminiscent of the Honda e due to its rounded shapes, although the most striking thing is the optics with three circles on each side.
Firefly begins marketing in China for see how your product breathes. It is the result of NIO not having achieved the expected results in Europe during its first years. There it has prices similar to those of the Mini Cooper or the Smart #1. We’ll see if its sales are up to par and it definitely starts to hit European markets next year.
