Positive Egera: an electric scrambler with an Italian soul and a premium price

Anyone who has looked lately at the market for small electric motorcycles, the equivalent of the 125, will have noticed that many of them look too similar: neo-retro aesthetics beyond whether they are scooters or not, relatively low price and a good part of their components from China. Well, it turns out that Positive Motorcycles wants to go in just the opposite direction.

It is a young Italian brand based next to Lake Como, founded by Timoteo Maffei, who has been developing his first motorcycle on his own for five years. It is called Egera, a name that comes from Electric Generation ERA, and mixes features of a scrambler, motard and café racer.

The liquid-cooled electric motor delivers 30 kW, about 41 HP, and 85 Nm of torque. An 11 kW variant has also been announced for the A1 license. The 7.7 kWh battery promises about 140 km of autonomy and, plugged into a domestic outlet, goes from 20 to 80% in about two and a half hours.

The Egera seeks to be a “premium” motorcycle

Most of the Positive Egera components are manufactured in Italy

The published figures speak of about 120 km/h top speed, although in development tests the Egera has reached 175 km/h.

The most striking thing is in the cycle part. The suspension is Öhlins, with a 41 mm fork and two rear shock absorbers, and it has 17-inch wheels. At 152 kg and the seat at 870 mm, it is a light motorcycle, but not especially low. Completing the set are regenerative braking, IP67 protection, a 4.3-inch TFT touch screen, LED lighting and 3D printed and carbon fiber parts to save weight.

Almost all of its components are made in Italy, and this is evident in the price. The figure being used, still unconfirmed, is around 10,000 euros without taxes, which with VAT would take it above 12,000 euros. It is not an access electric nor does it pretend to be: Positive aims directly at the premium segment.

Minimalist and with quality details, so the price will be high

To see it on the street there is still work. The brand has opened an initial financing round of 2 million euros and now has to organize production, the supply chain and the dealer network. Their goal is to put the Egera on sale in 2027.
