The helmet saves lives. There is nothing more to add to a phrase that is irrefutable. The one that is the only mandatory security element in many countries of the world, including Spain, is in charge of preserving our head as best as the figures demonstrate.
You can live without spleen, you can transplant your lungs or to your heart, you can live without appendix or without a loss … but in the head is the mother of the lamb, there is no replacement and the injuries are always complicated. So we say that the best investment that can be made on the motorcycle is to opt for a good helmet.
But, of course, you can have the best helmet in the world. The most expensive, the most efficient, which incorporates the latest security measures and even the same one that your favorite pilot carries, which as you do not know how to put it correctly will help you between little and nothing.
How is that to wear the helmet correctly?
Well, in reality the process is as simple as putting the head inside and fasten, right? Well yes and no. Putting the head inside is an essential requirement, but to get the greatest security that the helmet offers the first thing you have to look for is that it is your size. If it is not your size when it comes to a fall, you can rotate or leave and in that case the injuries will be horrible.
And then there is the second point, which is to fasten it correctly. There are different types of closures, but they are all efficient in the same way: tight. With the closure of “double D” or rings it is easier to adjust, it is the one used in races because it is infallible and simple, and you can always press it to the fullest so that it does not move.
Then we have the micrometric and “male-hembra” closures. As we say, both are effective if they are well placed, but what happens? Well, many people simply fasten the helmet and do not squeeze it. Leave space between his chin and the tape because he does not adjust it well, they have not realized, they are not comfortable or any other type of pilgrim excuse …
Then, with something so absurd (we are not going to qualify what happens before in the video, which gives for another article) as a drop at low speed, the helmet follows its path and we ours and, suddenly, without the right size and without a correct support we are totally unprotected.
And sometimes a simple gesture can save your life.
