Race weekends at Phillip Island are often unpredictable and this year it happened again. After three days of intense activity, MotoGP has a new GP winner, Raúl Fernández, but that is only the end of the GP, many things happened before that and some of them very interesting.
The first thing is that the weather conditions were once again a decisive factor to the point that the GP schedule was modified. On this occasion, no races had to be suspended as in 2023, but the Sunday schedule was delayed. A new sign that the Australian GP needs to be accommodated as late as possible in the championship despite the headache it may cause.
Raúl Fernández warns, but Bezzecchi shows muscle
This second half of the season we are seeing Marco Bezzecchi capable of being tremendously effective in all conditions and in the Australian GP he demonstrated it again. Although the pole position eluded him, his speed during practice made him a candidate for victory in the Sprint and, who knows, even in the GP despite the double long lap penalty that he had to comply with.

But when the traffic lights went out it was Raúl Fernández who took the lead of the race. Curve by curve, lap by lap, Raúl maintained the pace and established himself at the front. With spectacular solvency, the Madrid driver was able to stay in front until the ninth lap of the thirteen programmed, and four laps from the end Bezzecchi overtook him to win a new victory in the Sprint.
Fernández, who already stood on the Sprint podium in Indonesia, improved on third place despite the fact that victory was so close that it surely tasted different. The podium was completed by Pedro Acosta who surpassed Jack Miller, Fabio Di Giannantonio and Álex Márquez, with all of them fighting with the Murcian for third position.
Fabio Quartararo, who started from pole, could only finish seventh with Luca Marini eighth and Pol Espargaró ninth, adding the last point of the Sprint Race in the first of the two consecutive weekends in which he will compete, replacing Maverick Viñales.
Raúl Fernández signs an incontestable victory, the first for a satellite Aprilia
After what was seen on Saturday, everyone was waiting to see what would happen on Sunday. Marco Bezzecchi had to complete two long laps and, therefore, Raúl Fernández was the ideal candidate for victory. A pressure that the Spaniard knew how to endure while waiting for his moment.
And Bezzecchi came out, took the lead and began to set his pace, while Pedro Acosta put pressure on Fernández and even passed him before the Aprilia rider regained the position. Just one lap after that, Bezzecchi served the first of two penalties and Raúl Fernández took the lead of the race. Since then, lap after lap he imposed a pace that no one could follow.

The man from Madrid did not make a single mistake, he did not give in to the pressure of Acosta and Álex Márquez and when the end of the race was approaching on a track where excessive punishment to the rear tire can take its toll, he knew how to control Di Giannantonio who came with everything in search of victory.
Finally, that long-awaited victory was at the hands of the Spaniard, who thus becomes the seventh different winner of the season, and which confirms the great form he is in in this second half of the season after a more complicated start. The podium was completed by Fabio himself and Bezzecchi who, despite the two long laps, was able to reach third place. This result means that the Aprilia RS-GP are competitive and in contention for more victories in the remainder of the season. Furthermore, Bezzecchi is already third overall after another dark weekend for Pecco Bagnaia, who is going through the worst moment of his sporting career.

Álex Márquez, who could leave Malaysia with the second place mathematically assured, finished fourth with Pedro Acosta fifth. Luca Marini achieved sixth position in a weekend in which the Hondas have not been so competitive, while Álex Rins rose to seventh place to be the best Yamaha, also confirming the step forward that the rider himself has taken after Misano. Brad Binder, Enea Bastianini and Pol Espargaró completed the top10 in which the four KTMs were present.
After this intense weekend there is no time for rest and the drivers and teams are already preparing the next round of the championship which will be next weekend in Malaysia.
