Stellantis solid-state batteries will be ready in 2026

There has been talk for some time now about next-generation electric vehicles, those that will be able to travel more kilometers and recharge faster than the current ones. The solid state batteries They have been proposed as the most viable option to improve the capabilities of the electric cars of the future and large manufacturers are already investigating the technology. So much so, that some dare to give a date of its arrival. Stellantis confirms that by 2026 Its first vehicles will arrive with this type of battery.

It is a date that is ahead of other manufacturers and is made possible by the collaboration that the group has with Factorial. Stellantis made an investment of $75 million in this solid-state battery specialist company back in 2021 and the collaboration is beginning to bear fruit. In fact, they already have the base that adapts to this technology and they even dare to mention the first model that will receive it. The STLA Large platformwhich will give life to the most advanced and largest models, and also the one that will be able to mount these batteries.

On that basis, the first Stellantis model to receive Factorial’s state batteries will be the Dodge Charger Daytona. It is a very special example, since it is the first electric variant in the history of the muscle car. There was already talk of a configuration of two electric motors with a combined 670 HP of power and a 100.5 kWh battery, but by 2026 there will be a reduced fleet of Charger Daytonas with the new batteries. This is a pilot project for evaluate your performance in real driving conditions.

The FEST solid state battery from Factorial is the one chosen for this task and stands out for its specific energy density greater than 390 Wh/kg. This allows it to have more than obvious advantages over traditional lithium-ion batteries, since with this energy density they can improve performance and reduce weight. In the long term, they also seek reduce the total cost of the vehicle. In any case, it seems that in two years we will see the new batteries arrive at Stellantis and in the medium term they could reach production in Jeep or Alfa Romeo models.
