Suzuki GSX-R750M “Slingshot Racer” by Wildcard Garage

You may like it more or less. You may be more of a Honda, Yamaha or Kawasaki than a Suzuki, but, specifically, the GSX-R750 It is most likely that model that every sports lover, at some point, has wanted to have in their garage. We no longer speak when one of those first oil-cooled versions produced until 1992 prostrates before us.

Within these series, the so-called “Slingshot”known under this nickname in popular slang for installing guillotine carburetors in the fuel section. Precisely this specimen that we bring you today, specially prepared to compete in the AHRMA Next Gen Superbike category, belongs to that last series, called in internal code as GSX-R750M.

Suzuki GSX-R750M “Slingshot Racer” in detail

Stephen Clarka Scot with a passion for sports motorcycles since he was a child, is precisely the creator of Wildcard Garage. This YouTube channel is, according to its own description, “a space dedicated to the superbike legends of the late 80s, 90s and early 2000s.” In addition, Clark is dedicated to building preparations in the style of our protagonist, documenting the process in detail with videos.

About this passion, he explains to his Bike Bound colleagues: ““I grew up going to races in Knockhill and constantly begging my brothers to take me on the back of their bikes or to the bike shops.” As a result of this feeling, he decided to custom build a track-grade GSX-R750 Slingshot to compete in the AHRMA Next Gen Superbike category.

Given the choice, an M version of the model was made, dated 1992, the last to enjoy the original configuration with mixed cooling. “I really wanted to model the bike after the factory endurance racing bikes of this era and retain as many original parts from the era as possible.”clarifies Stephen.

In any case, the number of replaced components and modifications carried out on this platform is extensive, but we can mainly highlight the restoration of the FOX Twin Clicker 2 shock absorber, assembly of a Yoshimura exhaust or the footrests also signed by the Japanese specialist. Additionally, this GSX-R750M Slingshot includes:

On an aesthetic level, Clark’s GSX-R750M Slingshot has a body manufactured by Ricambi Weiss, painted with a decoration inspired by Yoshimura. The design in this case is Dan Riley of Gunn Design. Regarding the final result, Stephen explains: “Building a motorcycle from this era is much more complicated than building a new one due to the availability of parts and the process to obtain them. It is a much slower process, but very rewarding.”

Finally, talking about how this Old School Racer is going, he himself comments: “It feels very raw and extremely loud. The flat exhausts make the experience very different from a new bike, as the throttle is hard and you have to open it little by little. But it accelerates hard and sounds incredible.”

There is no doubt that we are facing a preparation to take off our hats.
