Suzuki returns to Suzuka with its “green” GSX-R1000R to perform more and pollute less

suzuki already has its sights set on one of the most emblematic events on the international calendar: the 8 Hours of Suzuka. Thus, this year’s edition, which will be held on July 5, will once again have the presence of the Japanese manufacturer in the category. Experimentalwithin its already consolidated project CN Challenge.

More than a simple return, it is a new evolution of its concept of sustainable competition, where each participation serves as a test bed for the development of technologies applicable to its future series production models.

At the head of the team he continues Shinichi Saharaa key figure in the brand’s sports structure for years, especially during his time in MotoGP. On the track, the responsibility will fall on top-level pilots such as Takuya Tsuda and Etienne Masonthe latter with several world endurance titles in his sporting record.

One of the most unique aspects of the project is that the team is made up entirely of employees of the company itself, which reinforces the experimental and internal development nature of this initiative. The goal is ambitious but realistic: to return to being among the top 10, as they achieved previously, and leave behind the discreet result of the last edition. All while they continue to collect key data for the technological evolution of the brand.

This is the “green” Suzuki competition

The technical base remains Suzuki GSX-R1000R of production, but deeply adapted to the demands of the resistance. As it could not be otherwise, the assembly receives improvements in key elements such as the chassis, swingarm, suspension and braking system, in addition to an aerodynamic revision that, without radically altering its silhouette, introduces more sophisticated solutions.

These include new front fenders and a ground effect system integrated into the rear area of the lower fairing, designed to improve stability at high speeds. The result is a superbike that maintains the DNA of the street model, but optimized to withstand the extreme conditions of an endurance race.

The true core of the project CN Challenge It is still sustainability. By 2026, suzuki expands the use of materials and solutions with low environmental impact both on the motorcycle and in all equipment operations. In fact, the fuel will be 100% sustainable and will be supplied by TotalEnergies.

But the focus goes far beyond fuel. The motorcycle incorporates low particle emission brakes, steel discs without heat treatment, an optimized titanium exhaust system, carbon fiber bodywork of biological origin and even such specific components as carbon-free chain joints. As we mentioned before, to all this is added the use of recycled materials in the team’s equipment, in an attempt to reduce the environmental footprint at all levels of the competition.

Takashi Isegeneral manager and executive manager of motorcycle operations at suzukihas declared: “Last year, at the Suzuka 8 Hours, the Suzuki CN Challenge team suffered an accident. However, working together as a single team, we repaired the bike and returned to the track, after which we were able to set times comparable to those of the leading riders.”.

He Mr Iseends: “For yet another year, we will further expand the use of sustainable items and drive technological development with a strong focus on both sustainability and performance.”.
