Although it is not the best way to prepare, many MotoGP pilots choose the motocross to get shape. Especially they roll during the preseason, because the greatest risk of the motocross is that you end up injuring you, and if that happens during the season, there is no time for recovery.
But the positive side that Motocross has for MotoGP pilots is that, physically, it is an extremely demanding discipline and, therefore, at the physical level it is positive. In addition, the touch that offers you a cross motorcycle with the front tire and the sensitivity that develops, ends up being important in situations of little grip.
Are MotoGP pilots fast if we compare it with one of motocross?
Every time we see a motorcycle pilot rolling in motocross we see that they are fast, much more than most people you can find enjoying sport in any circuit. But how fast are they? It is something that we can compare thanks to a video that Yamaha Racing has carried out, and in which they have joined Fabio Quartaro and Maxime Renaux.
From Quartararo there is not much to present, it is enough to remember that in addition to MotoGP pilot he was world champion in 2021. As for Renaux, he is the current MX2 world champion, so we can say that it is very very fast in Motocross.
Yamaha joined them to enjoy the sport together and, as good pilots, a duel against the chrono could not be missing to see who is faster. After Fabio tried the YZ450 standard, he went on to the YZ450m of the factory, which pilots this season Reaux. It was precisely with the YZ450m with which Fabio was more comfortable, because although the base motorcycle is good, the factory is major words.
Once accustomed, it was time to try the quick lap and, as expected, Maxime Renaux was the fastest. In fact, the chrono stopped 16 seconds before Fabio, an abysmal difference that shows how incredibly fast a professional motorcycle pilot goes even for MotoGP pilots.
Obviously, this trial does not mean that all MotoGP pilots are equally fast as Fabio. It will be more, it will be more and we will have less. But even seeing the style that Quartararo and the rhythm, to think that Renaux gives him such a beating is an example of the quality that the MX boys treasure.
