The Aprilia Shiver 900 returns four years later. The well-known Italian model now speaks another language

More than three years have passed since speculation began about the launch of a Aprilia Shiver 900 new generation. A long period of time in which, at times, the well-known Italian model could return protected by the rebirth of another iconic Italian brand, Gilera, and even as a totally new motorcycle with futuristic airs.

As of January 2025, what can be definitively confirmed is that the Shiver 900 is back on sale, but perhaps not as we initially expected. Roughly speaking, the transalpine brand makes use of the platform that it discontinued back in 2020, providing it with some aesthetic and equipment changes, although essentially maintaining everything that the well-known naked model once offered.

Aprilia Shiver 900: An old acquaintance

Looking back we can put the starting point of this story in September 2021. Then the Cyclone RA9 Concept was presented, a Chinese prototype based on the Shiver 900, although more powerful and with a completely radical aesthetic based on the power segment. cruiser.

Months later, in May 2022, images of two test mules developed on the Aprilia Shiver 900 that we all knew were leaked. However, there was speculation that Zongshen was working on a new model that could end up resurrecting the legendary Gilera. A photograph of the instrument panel of one of these units left no room for doubt.

Taking a leap in time we arrived at last October and then this story took a 180º turn. Basically, because it ended up establishing the return of the Shiver 900, although not as more than one of us believed.

A leak of the homologation documents in China confirmed that it would finally be Aprilia that would launch the “new” generation of the model, although in truth there is little news regarding the variant that was marketed until the 2020 season in some European countries.

Basically, we are looking at the Shiver 900 that ended up being discontinued from Aprilia’s offering five seasons ago. The images that we have seen after its official launch leave no room for doubt, since both the chassis and the engine remain the same as those used then by the Italian naked. This is confirmed by taking a look at the specifications table where we find the everlasting 896 cc 90º V2 with 95 HP of power at 8,750 rpm and 90 Nm of maximum torque at 6,500 rpm.

The brand declares a curb weight of 220 kilogramshaving the pilot’s seat located at 810mm from the ground and a wheelbase estimated at 1,465 mm. The 17” wheels are fitted with tires in sizes 120/70 and 180/55, front and rear respectively. A braking system is attached to them with 320 mm discs at the front and a third 240 mm diameter disc anchored to the rear rim.

The set works in collaboration with an ABS system signed by Continental, while the KYB suspensions use a 41 mm inverted fork at the front and a rear monoshock, with 120 and 130 mm of travel in both trains.

At this point one wonders what is new about the Shiver 900? Well, according to the first information, it has a new headlight and LED flashing kit, as well as a keyless start system.

The brand has presented up to four color schemes with which to configure it, although the price is not what is called cheap if we compare it with its direct rivals and the rates that are popular in those parts. Specifically, the Shiver 900 starts at 68,800 yuan, the equivalent to about 10,000 eurosso it is not clear what the reception will be from the average fan of the place.

On the other hand, and taking into account that it is equipped with the same engine as the 2020 Shiver 900, that is, a mechanism that is not currently approved according to the recent Euro5+ regulations, it is more than likely that the model will not return to European dealerships, as confirmed by the German media Motorrad Online.
