The “soap opera” Storr 500 continues to offer us new chapters while we have learned that the model has just started its commercialization in China. It does so under the initials of Gaokin Motowhich will ultimately also be responsible for manufacturing the model for both brands.
Thus, next November, with the celebration of EICMA 2024, two years will have passed since the presentation of the initial concept until its final launch as the Brixton model.
Brixton Storr 500: Official launch yet to be determined
The latest details surrounding the Storr 500 have clarified some of the questions surrounding why Brixton has not yet launched the model, according to information available to our colleagues at Cycle World. They explain that:
“Although it was shown at EICMA in 2022, the Storr’s path to dealerships in Europe has been bumpy, with the KSR Group running into financial trouble and filing for court-supervised restructuring in September 2023.”
Concludes: “That restructuring was completed in December, putting the company in a stronger position for 2024, but it may have affected the speed at which the Storr 500 has gone from concept to production, and explained why the Chinese-branded version has arrived in dealerships first.”
Taking a chronological look at the Storr 500, from the presentation of the first concept to the present day, we can better understand what has happened during all this time and what we can expect in the coming months. Here are some of the articles where we have frequently discussed the subject:
Gaokin Storr 500: Faithful to the original concept
Finally, it has been Gaokin Moto that has started marketing the Storr 500 in China, with an initial price starting at 29,980 yuan, 3,789 euros at the exchange rateCompared to the initial concept, the variant presented by the Asian brand offers slight changes in some of its elements, basically due to a legal and homologation issue in the country.
Among these modifications, the upper outlet of the exhaust system and the repositioning of the passenger footrests stand out. Visually, the powerful image given off by the front part and its side panels, where the auxiliary headlights are embedded, also stands out. Also the possibilities offered by its silhouette to be able to attach anchors with which to improve its equipment and load capacity.
The dashboard, in an almost vertical position, tells us about the intentions of the Storr 500, focused mainly on mixed use, although off-road driving is part of its genetics. This is helped by the 195 kilos declared or the use of 19 and 17 inch radial tires, front and rear respectively.
Finally, and in mechanical terms, the new Storr 500 has among its ranks the well-known water-cooled parallel twin-cylinder engine from 486 ccwhich delivers 48 hp at 8,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 43 Nm at 6,750 rpm.
It remains to be seen when Brixton will offer the model under its name on our continent and what the final price will be for this new range.
