Brough Upperthe emblematic British brand, continues to delight us with some of its most exotic creations. The last to join this select club is the new Dagger Sbased on the standard version of the same name and launched on the market in the 2022 season. As then, we have sought to offer in the same product a perfect pairing where tradition and innovation can coexist in an orderly manner.
Dagger S: exalting the sportiest essence of Brough Superior
There are not many changes that the new Dagger S presents with respect to the base version of the model, but they are fair and necessary to highlight the sporting possibilities that this platform is capable of offering us. Sticking to the official statements of the brand itself, its new version “embraces a decidedly sportier character, with a more forward-oriented driving position.”
Concludes: “Its bespoke fairing, sculpted with sharper, more aerodynamic lines, reinforces its dynamic stance, while the striking combination of matte and gloss carbon fiber completes its performance-inspired look.” As far as the technical section is concerned, there is no news. Nor in those equipment structures that make up the cycle part of the motorcycle.
Therefore, the 997 cc, water-cooled, DOHC, 88°, four-stroke, Euro5 V-twin engine with four valves per cylinder and chain drive remains unchanged. Power is provided by an electronic fuel injection system with Synerject ECU and 2 50 mm throttle bodies, each with an individual injector. The brand declares a final power of 102 HP at 9,600 rpm and 87 Nm of maximum torque at 7,300 revolutions.
The block is directly interconnected with a six-speed gearbox equipped with an oil bath multi-disc clutch, with hydraulic drive, and an APTC sliding system. The mechanics are embedded in what is possibly the jewel in the crown of this Dagger S. We are referring to its frame and subframe, both made of titanium by CNC.
The suspensions are not far behind either in terms of manufacturing quality or efficiency. Up front we find a Fior-type fork CNC machined from a solid aluminum block. It has two titanium articulated triangular links and a monoshock adjustable in preload and rebound with 120 mm of travel. Behind this task is a CNC aluminum pivoting swingarm, to which is anchored a monoshock adjustable in preload and rebound and a linkage with 130 mm of travel.
As we already said at the time, the Dagger mounts 17″ aluminum wheels on both axles. These have been shod with a set of tires measuring 120/70 and 200/55 and to them is anchored the braking system responsible for efficiently stopping the 200 kg kilos of weight declared by the brand. While at the front we have two 320 mm discs and four-piston calipers and radial anchorage, at the rear it is a 230 mm disc and a single two-piston caliper that is responsible for carrying out this task.
Other aesthetic details that are new in this S version compared to the standard Dagger, as commented by Visor Down, “They appear to be a honeycomb design in the carbon fiber of the top of the fuel tank and some elements of the fairing around the radiator.” Finally, we cannot forget the lower “S-Sport” inscription that appears around the aforementioned side covers of the radiator.
Although the starting price of the Dagger S has not been announced, from the official Brough Superior website they inform us that “whatever option you choose, the price of the Brough Superior Dagger / Dagger S motorcycle will be the same”, or in other words, a rate that in any case It will far exceed 70,000 euros.
