Last November, on the occasion of a new edition of EICMA, Zero Motorcycles publicly presented a new concept named Lompico. According to the Yankee firm itself, we were facing “a true declaration of intent.” Pierre-Martin BosCEO, Zero Motorcycles, commented on the project:
“Lompico is our invitation to rethink what an electric motorcycle can be. By encouraging conversation and pushing boundaries, we’re not just launching a new product — we’re taking innovation one step further”.
Now everything indicates that the initial prototype is on its way to becoming a series model after learning of the recent patent registration presented by the Yankee firm itself before the Intellectual Property Office of the European Union.
Lompico would be renamed Zero SF
On May 7, Zero registered design patents related to a new model: “Kenyon Kluge, vice president of design and engineering at Zero, and Matthew Bentley, senior director of industrial design, are listed as designers”as confirmed by Motorcycle colleagues. Analyzing the details of the documentation provided, it is confirmed that we are facing the evolution towards a street model of the aforementioned Lompico prototype.
The main differences that we can find between the initial concept and the first images of its final version are based mainly on the addition of those essential accessories for a possible homologation as a series model. We are talking about a pair of rearview mirrors, a flashing system or some modifications to the license plate holder and the front fender, as well as the support to which the instrument panel is anchored.
The front headlight also appears to have been redesigned, now being better integrated into the general lines that shape the front of the motorcycle. The rest of the components and key parts of the model appear to remain unchanged compared to the prototype presented last November. Although we do not have official data regarding its general specifications, we do have the figures declared at the time by the concept itself:
- Cypher 4 operating system
- Advanced connectivity and adaptive control, with performance that adjusts to the environment
- 8.8 kWh capacity battery
- Maximum power of ~30 kW (~40 HP)
- Fast charging, from 0 to 80% in less than an hour
- Lightweight chassis with controlled traction and high-level suspensions
Regarding the commercial name that the future Zero Motorcycles model could finally adopt, it is not very clear that Lompico will be maintained. It is likely that they will use the acronym “SF”, the same ones that the brand itself registered last June. Information that we cannot confirm for now since the American company has not commented on this matter.
