Yamaha has been advancing electric motorcycles for some time. We saw it with the TY-E trial and now we see it again with the new Yamaha YE-01 Racing Concept. A motorcycle that is in full development and that the Japanese manufacturer is evolving together with Electric Motion, its strategic partner since November of last year.
EM, in addition to being a partner of Yamaha since the Japanese brand made an investment in the French company, is a specialist in electric offroad and trial models. Since its founding in 2009, it has achieved good results in the Trial World Championship, the FIM E-Xplorer World Cup – the most important electric offroad motorcycle competition in the world – and other top-level events.
Therefore, we are talking about a top-level association whose ultimate goal is to lead the Yamaha YE-01 Racing Concept to become one of the leaders of the future electric motocross championship, MXEP. In this way, Yamaha reinforces its commitment to electrification but without giving up the passion and emotions of competition, which is so marked in the DNA of the Iwata firm.
The Yamaha YE-01 Racing Concept promises strong sensations
Although Yamaha has not given any type of relevant data about the performance of the Yamaha YE-01 Racing Concept, a model that is in full development and that will, therefore, change in the distant future, we do know that what they are looking for is to transmit the sensations of control and stability that the YZF cross models have.
In fact, it shares part of the cycle with the 2026 Yamaha YZ450F, so we find the same chassis and also the front fork and the KYB rear shock absorber, fully adjustable. It also has certain similarities aesthetically, although without the exhaust or the combustion engine, on an aesthetic level where the plastic ones are also compact and follow the line of the 450.
One of the data that Yamaha has released is that the Yamaha YE-01 Racing Concept has a liquid-cooled engine with “MXGP power levels.” In addition, seeking to ensure that the power delivery resembles what pilots are used to, the engine has a hydraulic clutch. As for the aid package, we find different power modes or traction control.
For now there is no official date for the next step of the new model, what does seem more certain is that it will still take some time before users can enjoy it, because the project for now is focused on being able to use the bike in the MXEP.
