When you mention the movie Goldfinger Many of the fans of the 007 films’ eyes light up. The James Bond cars, music and one-liners of Bond’s first blockbuster in 1964 make it arguably the most revered Bond film. To celebrate its 60th anniversary, Globe-Trotter has created a limited-edition luggage collection that not everyone
James Bond’s rolling cabin suitcase is inspired by the gadget-packed Aston Martin DB5 Silver Birch and the white and gray checkered three-piece suit in which Bond drove the DB5. Touches of the iconic past for a suitcase that will be launched in an exclusive limited edition of only 60 units.
Globe-Trotter is a team of highly skilled craftsmen from Herefordshire, England. Renowned for its handcrafted suitcases and travel accessories, its manufacturing methods and machinery date back to the Victorian era, something seen in the Goldfinger 60th Anniversary Numbered Edition suitcase.
Globe-Trotter has made this James Bond-worthy suitcase from vulcanized wood fiber panels, a material first invented in the 1850s, with properties that make it stronger than leather and lighter than aluminum. Replicating the Silver Birch finish of the DB5 from the iconic film, the suitcase, with four wheels, has its metallic silver exterior trimmed with black leather on the straps and corners (molded in Victorian presses for five days to obtain its shape and strength).
The interior is also fascinating in its attention to detail, with a fabric lining digitally printed with Bond’s three-piece tartan suit. The co-branded leather patch is engraved with “Goldfinger Sixty Years” and the Globe Trotter logo is not missing with the individual case number.
The James Bond carry-on suitcase with wheels weighs 4.2 kg and measures 55 cm high, 40 wide and 21 deep. With that size, it is an ideal companion on flights… if you have 4,495 euros to spend on the carry-on suitcase, of course.
