Yes, as we are telling you, Kawasaki has just unveiled in Japan the return of one of its most demanded models in the Japanese country, the KLX230. After a couple of years in dry dock, this return marks an important milestone for Japanese two-wheel fans, who were eagerly awaiting the revitalization of this iconic model.
But, of course, there is more. Kawasaki has decided to split this model into two variants, a trail (KLX230S) and another with a clear more asphalt focus: the KLX230SM (Supermotard)
The brand new 2024 family of the Kawasaki KLX230 It made its debut, not too long ago, at two of the most important motorcycle events in the world, the Japan Mobility Show and the Osaka Motorcycle Show.
As we could see in these shows, the main difference between these models and their predecessors lies in their ability to comply with the rigorous anti-pollution regulations introduced in Japan. To make it, Kawasaki has carried out important transformations in the ECU settings, ensuring optimal performance without neglecting care for the environment.
The previous series of KLX230 stood out for its energetic 233 cc SOHC single-cylinder engine, which generated 19 hp of power, mounted on a light semi-double cradle chassis. The new series inherits this propellant, with a weight of 134kg, but now complies with the latest emissions regulations. But maintaining its attractive weight-power ratio.
How the two Kawasaki KLX230 differ
The KLX230SM It is distinguished by its 17-inch wheels on both axles and a 300 mm front disc brake, while the KLX230S It features 21 and 18 inch wheels respectively, with a 265 mm front disc. Besides, the KLX230S offers the disengageable rear ABS function, a feature not found on the KLX230SM.
In the Japanese market, the KLX230S and the KLX230SM face two formidable rivals: the Honda CRF250L and the Suzuki V-Strom 250SX. While the Sling employs a liquid-cooled engine, the suzuki opt for air cooling. In terms of power, the V-Strom SX lead with 26 HPfollowed by the CRF with 24 HPwhile the KLX230 offers 19 hp. However, the Kawasaki KLX230 It stands out for its lightness, weighing around 130kgconsiderably less than its most direct competitors.
Regarding prices, and always speaking in Japan, the Honda CRF250L is located around the 3,800 euros (here 4,990 euros), while the Suzuki V-Strom 250SX round the 3,820 euros (here it costs around 5,800 euros). It is expected that the price of Kawasaki KLX230S and KLX230SM is in a similar range, offering riders a competitive option in the Japanese motorcycle market.
The return of the Kawasaki KLX230 to the Japanese market marks a milestone for motorcycle enthusiasts, providing a unique combination of power, agility and innovative design, making it an attractive option for both trail adventurers and Supermotard lovers.
