The Peugeot E-408 completes the range of the 408 that the brand launched in 2023 with a plug-in hybrid engine (180 and 225 HP) and which was later completed with the mild hybrid version of 136 HP). It retains its characteristic fastback silhouette and is powered by a 210 HP (157 kW) of power, combined with a battery of 58.2 kWh of net capacity.
Created on the EMP2 platform (Efficient Modular Platform), it remains 4.69 meters long and 1.85 meters wide, with a wheelbase of 2.79 m. The battery is located at the bottom of the car, lowering the center of gravity but maintaining the 1.49 meter height. Equip tires Graphite 19-inch wheels and innovative design receive 225-50 very low-profile tires
rolling resistance.
Aesthetically, it retains its grille that blends in with the bumper, the very thin front headlights with LED technology with a light signature that extends through the bumper simulating fangs or the three “claws” that draw the rear lights. The body can be chosen in five colors, white OkeniteBlue Obsessiongrey Seleniumred Elixir and black Black Pearl.
The Peugeot E-408 motor is synchronous with permanent magnets that develops 157 kW (210 HP) and Nm of torque. It is manufactured in France, in Trémery, by the Stellantis-Nidec company. It announces very low consumption, 15.2 kWh/100 km and even 453 km of autonomy according to the WLTP combined cycle. The 58.2 kWh capacity battery is NMC type (80% Nickel, 10% Manganese, 10% Cobalt) and is made up of 18 modules. The interior or trunk space (471 liters) does not change compared to the Peugeot 408 Hybrid that we tested.
This consumption is helped by aerodynamics, with details such as bumpers, front air intake, underbody screen and lower rear protections for front wheels. It also receives specific bass and elements such as regenerative braking (with three levels selectable by cams: Low (-0.6 m/s²), Moderate (-1.3 m/s²) to increase deceleration, Increased (-2.0 m/s²) to obtain maximum deceleration at release the accelerator pedal.
The driver can also choose between three driving modes, which affect performance:
- Normal: default mode, which sets the power at 140 kW (190 HP) and 300 Nm of torque.
- Sport: The maximum power of 157 kW (210 HP) and 345 Nm is available and is activated automatically when you press the pedal.
- ECHO: power is reduced to 125 kW (170 HP) and 270 Nm to promote autonomy.
In addition, it has a heat pump as standard, as well as a heated steering wheel and seats, to heat people and not the entire cabin. When recharging, it supports powers of up to 11kW in alternating current and up to 120 kW continuously (from 20% to 80% of the battery in about 30 minutes under nominal conditions), to recover 100 km of autonomy in just over 10 minutes. Figures that improve those of the 156 HP Peugeot E-308.
