Well yes, as you read it. “The Imps“says goodbye and closes the curtain definitively. The Imps Motorcycle Display Team has put an end to its career by auctioning off everything they could. That is, all the material.
On October 9, the house GJ Wisdom & Co was in charge. Among the lots, the pieces that for more than half a century shaped the spirit of The Imps.
That is, more than 80 motorcycles, the red uniforms with which the young pilots dazzled the public, and even the buses and trailers that transported all the material to the exhibitions.
What has been auctioned from The Imps?
As we are telling you, the list was as varied as it was representative: motorcycles signed by Sling, Lexmoto, KTM and yamahaa fully equipped motorhome, two coaches Scaniatools, exhibition ramps, tents, containers and logistical material accumulated over decades of touring. All of this, a symbol of an institution that was much more than a stunt team.
The final closure of the charity, and the team, was confirmed just a few months ago. The foundation’s trustees announced last July the cancellation of all future performances and, shortly thereafter, its permanent dissolution.
In their official statement, they expressed their regret: “It is with deep sadness that the trustees of The Imps have decided, after a full review, to permanently close the organisation. We truly appreciate the passion, loyalty and support of the children, parents and volunteers who have made The Imps something unique in so many lives.”.
Founded in 1970 by Roy Pratt MBEthe team was born with a clear purpose: to train young people through motorcycling. From the age of five, members learned discipline, group work and self-confidence, while putting on spectacular displays across the UK and at some international events.
For more than 50 years, Pratt was the soul of “The Imps“Under his leadership, the group earned an unrivaled reputation, performing in official ceremonies, festivals, military parades and even on tours throughout Europe and Asia. His death in May 2025, at the age of 86, marked the beginning of a void that is difficult to fill and that has finally concluded in what we are telling you.
Throughout its history,The Imps“inspired thousands of children and young people. Those columns of little pilots in red jackets, executing impossible maneuvers on tiny dirt bikes, will be part of the collective imagination of British and world motorcycling forever.
