Few things are more gratifying than “polishing” our mount… Right? Especially when we talk, for example, about removing the rust accumulated on some of its metal parts.
Today we are going to detail a method by which, simply by using water and aluminum foilwe will be able to recover the shine and presence of those areas affected by corrosion.
Water and aluminum foil: Easy and simple DIY
As we already detailed to you not long ago, in the article that we dedicated to the care of our motorcycle’s chrome, an essential aspect so that rust does not appear on its metal parts is regular maintenance and cleaning; either treating the parts with special products for this purpose, or simply giving them a microfiber and water from time to time, subsequently drying the area in the best possible way.
Now, if the dreaded rust has already invaded our motorcycle, we can use a really simple and cheap homemade trick: Water and aluminum foil. To do this, we will cut pieces of approximately 15 cm that we will immerse in a container with water. The idea is that the liquid acts as a lubricant, preventing the aluminum foil from marking the part we are treating.
There are people who, in search of greater degreasing power, use other liquids instead of water, such as vinegar or even Coca-Cola. In any case, returning to the original approach of this idea, only with water and aluminum foil we will achieve our goal of eliminating the aforementioned rust. Furthermore, it is not necessary to press when rubbing, basically because the process is based on producing aluminum oxide, which is ultimately responsible for removing the rust.
If the layer of rust is consistent, we can make a kind of ball with the aluminum foil to rub a little more vigorously. The last step is to clean the remains produced as a result of friction and then effectively dry the parts that we have treated with water and aluminum foil.
If we finally achieve our goal, we can apply some special metal polish with which we will surely improve the overall finish.
